“Good value for your money”

Hotel was nice. The location is really good, if wanting to come to Florence with car, but don't like the idea of driving in the city central. There goes bus 23 and 23A that are easy to use to city central.

Only bad thing about this hotel was the person greeting us, he didn't like his work or had a bad day.

4 of us reserved 2 rooms at this hotel for 3 nights and the cost on the Holiday Inn website looked a reasonable cost for the area it's in, which is about 2.5 Km outside the centre which is a 5 minute cab ride to the Ponte Vecchio. However hotel is not very inviting or "warm" or friendly. Its situated on a busy cross roads at the back of a petrol station. Rooms at the front of the hotel which we had are noisy if you open the window which you have to do as there is no aircon. At least it didn't in the two rooms we had if they even had it. Decor and interior design is very very dated. Hotel restaurant and choice of food not very appealing even with the "carrot" of a free glass of wine. We walked out without ordering anything as a bag of crisps from the garage forecourt vending machine was more inviting. The Bar area is equalling unfriendly and unappealing. However despite there being no vending machines (there are ice machines but no ice buckets in rooms and you can't put your own stuff in the room fridge otherwise hotel will charge you) the rooms were reasonably well maintained and the beds were comfortable. However what really spoilt our stay was on check out. The email confirmation sent on making the reservation quoted EUR 574 for the 2 rooms but nothing was shown for taxes. When we checked out we were charged EUR 401 for EACH room. When we queried it we were told our estimate didn't include taxes. As we had no choice we had to pay the bill which was 1/3rd higher than the quotation but it left a sour taste in the mouth because taxes don't change that often so they should be on the quotation even if it says they are an estimate and may be subject to change on arrival/departure. Even worse the taxes were not even itemised on the bill. Just the total amount of EUR 401. We would only give this hotel a 3 out 10.

we stayed here for a night Oct 21 2011, before heading to Rome Italy. We had just stayed at the Hilton Metropole in Florence for 6 nights before our Holiday inn stay. Wow no compairison! When we got to the Holiday inn the girl at the front desk could not speak 1 (one) word or English!! It got a little cool in the evening, I tried to turn up the heat in our room, it didn't work. So I called the front desk and was told that they can't turn the heat on until November 1st!!! You got to be kidding? No she was serious. So we had no heat for that evening. Mind you the Hilton had both heat and air conditioning. I thought Holiday inns where quite nice. We often use them when we travel. But I will think twice next time.

Room Tip: Ask if they have heat?

We chose this hotel largely because we are Priority Club members and because Holiday Inn is familiar to us. The hotel is about 15-20 minutes from the Academia in Florence by bus. You take the bus from near the Santa Maria Novella train station or from the square near the Academia to reach the hotel and take it across the street from the hotel to get into Florence from there. Not really a problem, but do some online work to see the bus stops and numbers. The hotel will provide information if you email them. The outside of the hotel looks rather drab, but the interior is modern as are the rooms, which are good size and clean as a whistle. The bathroom is very nice and has all the amenities one expects at Holiday Inn hotels. The breakfast is extra, but worth the cost, as they have a good selection of scrambled eggs, bacon, sausages, fruit, pastries, yogurts, cereal, coffee and juice. You can grab a breakfast at a local restaurant for a bit less, but the convenience of eating a more American style breakfast in the hotel before beginning a tour of the city makes it a bargain. Beds nice and firm with all the latest Holiday Inn bed linens and pillow choices. Lots of hot water and good shower head. Holiday Inn is a known quantity for Americans, so can be a good choice when traveling in a foreign country. Florence is an easy city to walk around in, although it is fairly large, so taking local buses can make life a bit easier if you can figure out which line goes where. We enjoyed our short stay at this hotel, which is very quiet and would be a very good option for one traveling by car, as they have a very large parking lot. We enjoyed Florence, but much preferred Siena. You can take a bus from the bus station near Santa Maria Novella train station in Florence to Siena that drops you off in the Piazza Gramsci in the old city of Siena near the San Domenico church, where there are several nearby hotels. We suggest such a trip and that you spend at least two nights or more in Siena, from where you can visit wineries and spectacular hill villages in the Tuscan countryside. Siena itself has many, many historic buildings and churches, plus one of the largest piazzas in Europe. The Cathedral in Seina is simply breathtaking with all its interior details, sculptures and inlaid marble floor scenes. A must see when visiting Italy.

Although this hotel claims to be a Holiday Inn it has a slightly more downmarket feel to it. We stayed here for two nights in mid September. A deciding factor for our choice was the fact that it had parking and a pool and Italy gets hot in Summer! On arriving on a scorching day, we were duly informed that the pool was closed as the season was over. This was disappointing, to say the least and did not go down well with the kids. Parking, although outside was secure and covered. We were staying in room 249 which had two double beds a minibar but no room safe. As regards to cleanliness it did look clean but we did find a large plastic hairclip on the floor. On each floor there was an ice machine although no ice buckets could be found anywhere not even in our room.
Breakfast was average. There seemed to be a lot of coach tours using the hotel and on both occasions when we went down for breakfast at around 8.30am, we would find an incredibly messy dining room which the staff would take ages to clear away. The spread on offer included cake, bread, some hot food, cereals tea or coffee that you make yourself and a fruit and yoghurt counter that is outside by the pool and if you are seated inside won't know about and miss entirely. The second morning we had breakfast there, we had some cake which we recognised as being the previous day's because it was very stale. The least one would expect from a Holiday Inn is that they would use proper food storage facilities.
Reception staff were helpful and we were able to purchase bus tickets to the centre of Florence from here. They provided us with a map and showed us from where to board the bus, the journey covered by the bus all around Florence and from where to board to return to the hotel. The bus number was 23 or 23 a and the bus stop to go to the centre is at the side of the hotel next to a takeaway pizzeria . If I recall the bus stop is called 'Olanda'. On returning back from Florence the closest bus stop to the hotel that gets you right outside the car park is called 'Francia'. It takes around 15 minutes to get to the centre and this was very convenient.
As regards value this hotel was great value as a family room which included breakfast, cost 100 euro plus 4 euro per person city tax per night.

Stayed here as part of a Cosmos tour in October 2011. Close to a supermarket, and some small stores but far from Florence main area. You can take a bus into town but good luck finding one to get back. They close the city square to traffic and it took us forever to find a bus back. We finally found one near the river.
Great bathroom, good sized room for Europe, okay breakfast and they had an ice machine. I would stay again if I was coming back on my own. It's Holiday Inn they know what they're doing.

Room Tip: We stayed facing the street and it was still quiet.

We used this hotel as a base for exploring Florence. Service was good and it had the amenities you would expect from a Holiday Inn. Parking is adequate and neighborhood is nice. Walk 150 yards to the right for a wonderful breakfast at San Michele Caffe for under €4.
Warning: The room was freezing, because heating by law cannto be turned on before nov.1st.
