“Good bang for your buck!”
Reviewed July 9, 2012

From the airport you are looking at about a 30 minute drive and about 5 from the metro. Located at Via Machiavelli, you will find yourself at very quiet and safe part of town (southern side of Florence). The staff is friendly and willing to help where possible and don't be alarmed when the reception desk is incredibly hot, the rooms are air-conditioned. Upon our entrance to our room (separate from the reception desk building) I found the room to be spacious and clean. Very old fashioned and peaceful, I found the room to be comfortable. The fixtures could use some updating and the closets should be aired out, overall the room is perfect. The only flaw, which is why I gave it a 3 star, was that our room was on ground level next to the entrance door and the constant slamming was quite ridiculous at 2 in the morning. Nonetheless, I would consider coming back.

The hotel, by foot, is a 20 minute walk from the heart of Florence and all the large attraction sites, but its a good walk. You will pass by the Pitti and the gardens everyday and the bus stop is minutes away. You can also walk to Piazza Michelangelo and is highly recommended for scenic views.

FYI: Breakfast is served up until 1015, but don't expect to stay full if you don't like pastries and hard boil eggs every morning. Enjoy your vacation!

Room Tip: Stay away from room 301.

We had a lovely 3 night stay at this charming hotel. While our room was not large it was enough and very clean and comfortable. The location is delightful on the edge of the park, so peaceful and quiet. The community rooms on the first floor were very comfortable for conversations or games with our group. Breakfast was generous and always delicious. The staff could not have been more helpful. They graciously provided any help we needed. We all appreciated being able to get online in the lounge to keep in touch. Look forward to staying there again on our next visit to Florence.

Very clean, fantastic quiet location. Just 10 mins from Ponte Vecchio on the free cycles. I would certainly go to this hotel if i visit Florence again. Sitting outside with a glass of wine after a hard day sight seeing in such a peaceful setting is so relaxing. Helpful staff who go out of their way to ensure your stay is memorable. Recommended :-)

Beautiful location- right beside the Boboli Garden. A 20 minute walk to the Old historic town in Florence. The walk is beautiful and we almost forgot we were in Italy. It was so nice to be away from all the tourists.
you should plan your transportation prior to arriving because we didn't. The hotel staff was very friendly and gave us step by step directions - take bus 36/37 to Piazza Romana (10min) and then walk another 10 min up a slight hill to the hotel. Worth it!
The room was fanastic! our room overlooked the front of the hotel with a view of the garden. rooms were clean and comfy.
The breakfast was not up to par with the hotel rating and the trip advisor reviews. The breakfast time was always late and it looked like the only server would get there right when breakfast started. The food consisted of: sliced bread, croissants, cereal selection, granola, canned fruit, oranges and kiwi. For a hotel that had their own restaurant (which was empty all the time), we would have thought they would make more of an effort with the breakfast.
There is a great grocery store and take out restaurant (with tuscan food: roasted chicken and potatoes, veggies, pizza and dessert) a 15 min walk away - on the main road leading you to Ponte Vecchio. The hotel is a short bus ride up to Piazzele Michaelangelo too!

florence is a fantastic place to visit and the italian food is incredible - villa carlotta is a beatifull and charm hotel -- the breakfast was just ok but I think they can try a little harder and offer a more variated selection of food -- most of the staff were very nice people that usually help you when you ask for a restaurant or a direction but at night there was a man very disgusting that in two occasions treat me in a rude manner when i ask for a coffee or even hot water early in the morning ( he said to me " there is not coffee time at night " or " the bar is closed " eventhough I explain to him that I am leaving to the airport or in other occasion that i have booked for a all day trek and must leave the hotel early in the morning -- the location of the hotel is fantastic very quiet residential area and on the other hand very close to the city center -- Szvalb Sergio -- Israel

Dear Guest ,
Concerning your review I were very surprised about what you said so i checked what is happened also with our Night Concierge.
The respect and the courtesy are the mains values for our employees, and the night concierge is able and licensed to prepare coffee and drinks during the night in case somebody would like them. The bar inside the Hotel close at 11:00 PM but in case somebody in the night there are never been problem to get something from the bar.
The Only Thing the Night concierge told You, and there was a misunderstanding on that with you, is that in case you would like something in the middle of the night (01:00 am) like a drink or a The, there is a charge on the bill as a bar, if people come down early in the morning, something like 4, 5 or 6 am in the morning because they have to leave the hotel there are no problem give them coffee, orange juice , croissant, piece of cakes.... as an early breakfast.
Anyway we glad to know you like Villa Carlotta as a "beatiful and charm hotel", so we hope to see you again in Florence again as our appreciated guest.

Best Regards

We experienced the most wonderful stay of all our vacation stops (Rome, Florence, Tuscany and Venice) All the others were 5 star hotels but Villa Carlotta Hotel was as nice but additionally we loved the relaxing courtyard, great hospitality, elegant decor with European antiques, very convenient location, and wonderful dining. It had it all and so reasonable. We paid 3X for the other hotels. When we go to Italy next time, we think we will base out of there and just do day trips from there.

All five of us agreed that the hotel was excellent. We stayed a week and had not a single complaint. The rooms were kept very clean and the front desk staff helped us book restaurants and dealt with any other requests we had.

If you want a quiet base in very pleasant surroundings within easy walking distance of the city and a host of restaurants, then stay at the Villa Carlotta.
