Hi, I stayed at the BW select in Firenze in June 2012 with 2 friends on a business trip. The hotel is located about 2,5 km from the Duomo, but it´s a block away from a main street so it´s easy to catch a bus or taxi to the historic city area. The hotel is kind of old, but clean, the air conditioning cools great (not regulated centrally) which was important, since it was doing about 40oC outside during the day. The room was spacious enough. The breakfast buffet is pretty basic, as in most European hotels. All in all, I would return.

1. Did not provide booked services. Front desk refused to acknowledge that I had booked a superior, remodeled room with free minibar soft drinks.
2. Far from city center and not in a pleasant neighborhood.
3. Nothing around the hotel for dinning - very dreary and grim atmosphere around the hotel.
4. Staff unfriendly and not very responsive.
5. Breakfast not on time, breakfast dude simply said "no English" and this is a US chain of hotel - why would he not speak English - at least conversational?
6. Wi-Fi kept cutting off every 10 minutes and poor speeds.
7. Have to climb few steps (~6 steps) to get to front desk with luggage - front desk does not help or no concierge - they just look at you. Did not offer help to send luggage to room.
8. Does not meet US Best Western Standards.
9. Stay elsewhere but here.

The hotel staff were friendly; our room was adequately big and the cleaning lady cleaned up our room every day - almost like a four star hotel. If you are smoker, be warned that smoking in rooms is not allowed.
Only disadvantage of the hotel is its location. We traveled four cities during our Italy trip and only got lost in Florence on our first day; the hotel is quite far from the city center. Do not forget to have print-outs from google maps (maps show the way from airport to hotel or from railway station to hotel). I advice you to take taxi (from railway station) for the first time arrival to hotel, then search for the bus stations when you're not carrying your luggages with you.

We had some difficulty finding this hotel eventhough we hired a taxi driver who could barely speak english. But the hotel was charming with very friendly staff. Our rooms were adequate in size, but the beds were not so comfortable and I kept hitting the edges which were hidden. No aircondition was available as the staff said because it was spring and cold enough. No english channels were available however. Breakfast was buffet and delicious, for a typical european breakfast served at the basement which was small but homey. Elevator was cramped. Overall i would recommend this hotel, but the location should be kept in mind since it is far from the city center and not walking distance to the train station.

So for this hotel has been the worst; first off had to go acroos the street to my room! Can only park your car in blue zone what ble zone all garbage cans and trollys. Nothing worked very well or not at all. Was not well was going to pay for sky tv but didnot work. No resturants to speak of. bad location. Staff polite .

Room Tip: try in the hotel itself not across the street

If you are traveling to Florene, I recommend that you stay somewhere other than BW Hotel Select. The hotel is very out-dated, the breakfast was terrible and the location is even worse. Granted it is only a mile to the Duomo, however, you have to cross several very busy streets to get there and we were traveling with two children. Even our tour guide in Florence considers this area " The Ghetto" of Florence. It was mentioned in one of the other reports and it is true, there is a large dog next door that likes to bark very early in the morning. We loved the BW's in Rome and Venice, but we really wished we could have stayed somewhere else in Florence.
