The hotel staff were friendly; our room was adequately big and the cleaning lady cleaned up our room every day - almost like a four star hotel. If you are smoker, be warned that smoking in rooms is not allowed.
Only disadvantage of the hotel is its location. We traveled four cities during our Italy trip and only got lost in Florence on our first day; the hotel is quite far from the city center. Do not forget to have print-outs from google maps (maps show the way from airport to hotel or from railway station to hotel). I advice you to take taxi (from railway station) for the first time arrival to hotel, then search for the bus stations when you're not carrying your luggages with you.

We had some difficulty finding this hotel eventhough we hired a taxi driver who could barely speak english. But the hotel was charming with very friendly staff. Our rooms were adequate in size, but the beds were not so comfortable and I kept hitting the edges which were hidden. No aircondition was available as the staff said because it was spring and cold enough. No english channels were available however. Breakfast was buffet and delicious, for a typical european breakfast served at the basement which was small but homey. Elevator was cramped. Overall i would recommend this hotel, but the location should be kept in mind since it is far from the city center and not walking distance to the train station.

So for this hotel has been the worst; first off had to go acroos the street to my room! Can only park your car in blue zone what ble zone all garbage cans and trollys. Nothing worked very well or not at all. Was not well was going to pay for sky tv but didnot work. No resturants to speak of. bad location. Staff polite .

Room Tip: try in the hotel itself not across the street

If you are traveling to Florene, I recommend that you stay somewhere other than BW Hotel Select. The hotel is very out-dated, the breakfast was terrible and the location is even worse. Granted it is only a mile to the Duomo, however, you have to cross several very busy streets to get there and we were traveling with two children. Even our tour guide in Florence considers this area " The Ghetto" of Florence. It was mentioned in one of the other reports and it is true, there is a large dog next door that likes to bark very early in the morning. We loved the BW's in Rome and Venice, but we really wished we could have stayed somewhere else in Florence.

We picked the hotel purely for its value and were very pleased. By bus it was 10 mins away from the heart of the city. We could purchase bus tickets from the front desk. We don't care if a hotel is updated or not as long as the room is clean, which it was.The English-speaking staff was very helpful in providing us with maps and directions. Plentiful breakfast with cold cuts, cheese, boiled eggs over and above the usual croissant and cereal which we found in other hotels in Italy. We liked that the location was in a residential area away from the tourist crowd. Since it got dark early we would get back from the attractions by 6:30 and walk to the restaurants close to the hotel. The food was so much better than the touristy fare offered in the main city. Caution to those renting a car: While this hotel is very easily accessible by car, the cost and availability of parking is a huge challenge.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms above the main floor.

Don't be fooled-- there are multiple (7, perhaps?) best westerns in Florence. I was hoping to have booked the premier best western that is only steps from the duomo, but ended up staying here, instead. (with that being said, the lady i traveled with booked through a travel agent, so it could have gotten lost in translation...)

However, this hotel was fine for my needs. First, it was quite confusing to get to from the train station (get a cab!!). The entrance/lobby is in dire need of updating-- we did have to wait to get to our room because they were putting down new carpet--hopefully they will be redoing the rest of the hotel. The employees at the front desk were not overly helpful, but curteous enough. The breakfast staff was nice/accomodating.

Our room was a nice size, but the beds were not that comfortable. I'm not much of a breakfast eater, so it was perfect for me. There was a selection of luncheon meats, breads/pastries and yogurt. There were coffee and juice machines as well.

Like I said, it was confusing to get from the train station (basically the city center) to this hotel, but it was really only a 20 minute walk to the duomo. about another 20 minute walk (different direction) to the ponte vecchio.

Also of note, there is a dog (neighbor, I assume.. the street is quite residential) that barks early in the morning, and there is a daycare next to the hotel... my window opened right to their playground area. This was not much of a problem, as we were awake and getting ready to go out for the day. However, if you sleep late or need to be doing work in the room, this is something to consider. They have a computer in the lobby of the hotel--you get 1hr free.
