We spent 5 nights in the Alba Palace. The room was very clean, although a little crowded. It had a great location - only about 2 blocks from the train station and within walking distance of most of the major sites. The hotel staff was very accommodating and helpful. The free breakfast was standard fare for a European hotel that caters to Americans. I would not hesitate to stay there again.

This hotel is a 5 minute walk from the train station and right in the heart of Florence. We had a room on the 2nd floor at the front of the hotel and had no problem with noise. The room was spotless and cleaned thoroughly daily. There was plenty of choice for breakfast, cereals, fruit, bread and rolls, cold meats, cheeses, and best of all, pastries! The waitress running the dining room had to work hard clearing tables as well as topping up the food plates. She did this with a smile on her face and nothing was too much trouble for her. We arrived late in the evening but the receptionist was waiting for us and we were checked in very quickly and in no time walking down the road looking for our evening meal! There is a good pizza restaurant 100 metres along the road. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending this hotel and would stay there again.

Hotel Alba Palace was even better than I could have imagined starting with the inviting lobby, sunlit breakfast atrium, and continuing on to the spacious, comfortable, very clean, and warmly decorated rooms. Breakfast was above standard with lots of wonderful pastries, cheese, fruit, cereal, juices, and coffee. Situated just off of the Piazza Santa Maria Novella, the hotel is close to the train station, within walking distance to just about everything, and don't miss the used and rare book shops in the area between the hotel and the Arno. Wonderful restaurants are close by, we enjoyed Tira baralla, just down the street, and Tratorria al Trebbio was a favorite.

We just returned from our visit to Italy and Greece and we would HIGHLY recommend the Hotel Alba Palace in Florence! The staff was incredibly helpful and welcoming and they put us in an "upgrade" room that was quite a lovely surprise. We were placed in a room (I believe it was 002 or 003) that had a double sized jaccuzi, double shower, a second bedroom "balcony". It was definitely within our top 2 hotels of our stay out of the 6-7 we stayed in! Now, was it perfect? No, we couldn't figure out how to run the jets for the jacuzzi but we enjoyed the soak after the 7-8days of walking Italy previous, and one of the shower heads didn't flow properly, however we didn't care. Our only regret was that we were only able to stay one night because of our schedule. We are sure that the staff would have shown us how to use the jets and fixed the second shower head had we stayed more than one night. They showed us to a fabulous dinner (in fact our favorite of our ENTIRE trip, at "18 Gobbi", a MUST visit, favorite wine of the trip, staff very charming, the house special Rigatoni a MUST!) The hotel was quiet, the breakfast lovely, and it was within walking distance to everything! Fabulous all around! I'm sorry to hear others had an "adequate" experience. Maybe it is all in the outlook...We found it quite wonderful!!

Location was great as we travelled by train and the hotel was only .5kms from the Santa Maria Novella train station. Breakfast was a traditional Italian breakfast of pastries, bread, cheese and ham! A great a little pizzeria across the road!

Room Tip: Met all of our needs and quite spacious but needed better ventilation! The top story of our room was...
