This is an old hotel that has seen better days but still has something left to offer. It is well located—just a couple of blocks from the main train station in Florence and that makes it worth the stay. Head out the front door and turn left and in a few blocks you are looking up at the Duomo in all its splendor. My room was small but the rule of thumb is sleep cheap and spend your money on the good stuff. Comes with a well stocked breakfast, friendly and helpful staff, and all you need for a visit to Florence—a city that you want to spend all your time outside in. And I found the hotel a bit quirky—a lift that fits only two plus a bag or two (typical for Europe and old hotels), floors that seem like they are half floors, and this one comes with a lot of art on the walls. The stained glass in the lobby and main room are quite beautiful. Plan on small showers, small rooms, and go outside and enjoy Florence.
