It would be a shame if people were put off using this hotel, as I almost was, by some of the extreme comments posted by a minority of contributors whose reviews appear in the 'bad/terrible' category. They simply don't correspond to what I experienced.
I needed to spend 4 nights in Florence; this was the first one that came up on Booking.com; I needed proximity to the railway station and was willing to meet the fairly pricey tariff (about €470 for the 4 nights' single occupancy). It's a perfectly unexceptionable 3-star hotel, i.e. limited public space (though a nice little bar) a well-used elevator and a cramped shower cabin, but my quiet, air-conditioned, high-ceilinged room was spacious and perfectly clean, and I slept like a log on a comfortable bed. Breakfast was lavish by Continental standards and staff friendly and responsive. The Champs Elysee the street ain't, but it's a picturesque 10-minute or less walk from the Duomo.

Room Tip: In higher floors you can't hear the street.

This was a real find. Very conveniently located near the station and the main sites in the city centre. The rooms were very clean and thoughtfully decorated and furnished. Breakfast was just right and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. If you want a low budget, no frills but comfortable hotel in the centre of Florence, you really would struggle to do better than Hotel Machiavelli Palace.

Hotel Machiavelli was both clean and convenient and about what I would consider a 2.5 to 3 star place. It was really convenient to the train station (5 minute walk) and plenty of small restaurants within walking distance. Also easy access to the Duomo, Central Market and pretty much any piazza we wanted to get to. All in all, a good choice for our needs. Staff was fantastic. Only downside (and not unexpected in Europe), the hotel is old and the room was a bit worn. A good paint job would have went a long way but the bathroom was spotless and modern. The other downside was the air conditioning. It was 90 and humid so the older retrofit A/C was just not making it. Made sleeping a challenge but for a 3 star it was ok.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a balcony...pretty cool looking out over the duomo!

We were looking for something affordable and close to the city center and this hotel fit perfectly! My daughters have celiac disease and were accommodated at breakfast by simply saying " senza glutine"! Rooms were large, comfotble and clean and we were able to walk everywhere easily.

The hotel is very close to the train station and not far to walk to all the main sites. We were pleasantly surprised to have a room with a little balcony and table and chairs. Perfect to enjoy our pane and salami and beers that we bought from the supermarket around the corner. The service was ok, but the breakfast lady was lovely and let us in even though we were late. Only problem was that the bed was so hard and the air on so loud it was hard to sleep well.

Friendly and helpful staff of this nice little hotel in the city centre near the railway station and all sites worth visiting made our stay a joyful experience. The building is a converted convent from the early 1700s, so rooms are a bit small, but very pleasant.
