Grand Hotel Adriatico

We stayed at the Grand Hotel Adriatico in March 2011. We booked this hotel through a travel package and were expecting a budget hotel with few amenities. Compared to our hotels in Rome and Venice, this hotel was by far the largest and most modern hotel we stayed at during our vacation in Italy.

The hotel is located close to the train station within easy walking distance to the river and all major attractions. The location could not have been more convenient for us.

The service was exceptional. There was no language barrier. We had a problem with our room safe (our mistake), and the staff was quick to come to our rescue.

The rooms were large, clean, and comfortable.

The breakfast here was the best we had during our vacation. There was a very large assortment of foods, including hot eggs and bacon! There was even staff that brought us tea or coffee.

Overall, I would stay here again. This hotel had all of the comforts of home.

We have traveled to Italy twice now and have stayed in other Best Westerns before. We were staying at a fabulous Bed and Breakfast in Ghivizzano and decided to stay a night in Florence. We made the reservations the night before we traveled to Florence. We booked online and based our booking on Free Parking - well little did we know that they had mistated the "Free" parking online. We were charged 20 euros and the front desk personnel told us that the website was confusing and other people had had a problem with this but there was no free parking and there was only one parking left and if we didn't hurry up and park we would lose out on the parking space. Front desk personnel were not helpful. We will not recommend this hotel to anyone. We were so happy to go back to our Bed and Breakfast to continue our vacation. We will definitely be back to Italy but not to this hotel.

Best Western Adriatico near the central station in Florence.. a 10-15 min walk to the old part of town.

Pros :

-renovated rooms
-location near river and central station

Cons:
- rooms are tiny !! actually only space for the bed... and i even had a double room..
- internet rates are outrageous !! 15 € and only via cable in room !
- Breakfast is expensive and not very nice... (6,50 € extra for breakfast in room)
- night shift guy alway unfriendly and not very helpful !!

Go somewhere else in Florence !!

My husband and I booked our honeymoon trip to Italy (Venice/Florence/Rome/Naples/Sorrento) using Best Western points through a BW hotel reservation service. We thought everthing was ok until we were about to check out from the Venice BW hotel that BW points weren't transferred to pay for the hotel stay. We were charged with EUROs. We explained our situation to the manager of the hotel that we paid the hotel stay with the BW points.
He made a couple of phone calls and he took care of it immediately. We were stressed out but very satisfied with the customer service.

BW hotel reservation customer service rep has booked us using regular rate---paying with euros, not with the points. They've informed us that the points will be applied to all the hotel stays in Italy. Then, the same mistake happened again when we got to Florence BW Grand hotel Adriatico .

We found out that BW points weren't applying to florence hotel stay either. Here we go again. This time, we were really disappointed with their customer care. When we explained our situation this time, the staff wasn't accomodating to our problem. They made no attempt to solve. The Manager was totally USELESS and uncaring. I swear, I don't know how he could be in the management position. He has no customer service skills. I work in a customer oriented service as a charge person. There is always something we can do to help solve our clients' problems.
But not with the staff at BW Grand hotel Adratico. They had the attitude of "BW hotel reservation made a mistake but that's not our problem". Their solution to BW mistake was letting us pay with BW points but at the market rate of 159-219 euro a night instead of 28000 points/night they advertised. They came up with a very complicated calculation that used up all BW points we ever had for the entire trip plus an additional 29 euros for the stay at their hotel.
We couldn't beleive our ears and eyes what they made us pay. They said they were doing us a favor by letting us pay with points. OMG! that was their best accomadation to their mistake. So my husband ended up having to call BW reservations himself and spent close to three hours on the phone dealing with this problem - including spending almost 30 minutes on hold at one point. We were finally able to resolve the issue but not until after spending 3 hours on the phone - 3 hours that could have been spent walking around Florence and visiting the sites.

We are wrting this review because we do not wish this kind of worst custermer service on anyone.

We booked this hotel while still in Canada using their 1.800 number. We had done this for Rome stay as well so we thought that the hotel would be just as good. It actually made us realise that what we had in Rome was excellent. The rooms are extremely dark, depressing feel. The staff, if they understand you seem to be nice but are completely incompetant; they never gave us correct information once (and no we are not loud and obnoxious). We had a few problems we the room, the lights would not stay on, needed cardboard shoved into the card stow, the bathtub/shower leaked. When I had read previous reviews and people had complained I thought that they must be overweight and a little daft not to understand how to use a shower head in one hand and lather in the other; I was wrong. The bath is so narrow that it makes washing quite awkward and difficult, there is no way not to get water all over the place. The location was fine, enjoyed the distance as it was far more peaceful (lots of tourists in a place that needs to be soaked in), but was within walking distance to the major places. There is a pizza style restaurant directly outside that was always open, good, and reasonable. You had to pay for the wifi, don't listen to what anyone else says, it is not free. Oh yeah the bed, was very bouncy, great if you like to jump on them, not so fab for sleeping. If I had to do it again, I would have chosen another place, but most likely in the same area, the quiet was lovely. Free parking in the back. Window opens, no balcony. There was a restaurant but it was never open. The breakfasts are in a beautiful location, could be outdoors or in, this was lovely. The staff at breakfast were kind and professional.

Dear Sirs,

we thank you for your observations regarding our hotel. This give us the opportunity to improve ourselves and clarify some points that could be only missunderstandings.
Let’s start from the rooms: Our rooms work with a keycard that operates (while the card is in the slot, inside the room) electricity and security. It is a way for energy saving and it guarantees security for our clients.
The feelings that our room’s style, our colours and furnishing give to the client are extremely personal. Someone find our rooms very relaxing, others find them too bright. The mattresses for some people are too hard, but, we understand, that for you were too soft.
In any case if you found your room not so comfortable as you expected, applying to the reception, we would have been very happy to help you and to satisfy your expectations moving into another room.
The staff: All our staff speaks fluent english, and we always try to do our best in order to make our client’s stay pleasant.
Last by not least the restaurant: Our OPERA restaurant is open everyday from 7.30 p.m to 10.30 p.m (closed only on sunday). The opening time is written in our directory in all our rooms and, also, at the entrance of the restaurant. There were no extra closing dates in the period of you stay in our hotel, therefore we really do not understand why you said you “always” found it closed.
We hope that we will be able to welcome you again in our hotel.
Best regards
Paolo Guidotti

This hotel is good, though not amazing. Hotels in this area are all expensive and this was no exception.
Location was ok - close to main station and to historic centre, though Florence is small enough that nothing is too far away. We found the location pretty convenient though.
Rooms are small but nicely done, modern and clean. Bathroom was nice and shower pressure good. Has safe, mini-bar and everything you'd expect to find.
Breakfast was average - not many hot options, but good coffee! Staff at reception and breakfast were pleasant.
No free internet anywhere in the hotel, which I would expect for a 4* hotel at this price. You can buy wifi for 10euro an hour or 20 euro a day which I think is far too expensive.

We had 3 rooms in this hotel which has its own free parking too. Excellent location to walk to all the sights. In the evening there are quite a few people hanging about as there are a number of internet and phone locations here. It can seem intimidating but it really is not. We were a group of 2 adults, 2 teenagers and an OAP and were never bothered by anyone.
The rooms were good, quiet and the rate we had was good as there was a 4 for the price of 3 nights offer. The car parking was very handy - essential to consider as i didnt see any public car parks about.
Breakfast was great too.
Only down side was internet wifi was not free - but this may be the norm for Italy.
