“Old and Intriguing”
Reviewed January 5, 2014

The Hotel Croce Di Malta is in the heart of "tourist" Florence. It is close to everything the tourist would be interested in. The staff is very helpful, nearby restaurants very good. The building is very old - built as a convent in the 1200's but the renovations are awesome. How can you bring a 13th century building into the 21st century. They've done it. It is a little quirky but delightful. Check out the roof bar.

Well the place looks dirty ,the room and everything in it seem it was not clean in very long time, the bathroom ...the bathtubs are so high up that it's so very hard to get in and out of them very dangerous,I was sacred I would get hurt.

Got this hotel as part of an upgrade with gate one travel 11day rail Italy tour.
Pros: great location, staff are very knowledgable and friendly
Cons: rooms are dingy, shower is literally 3.5ft by 3.5 ft, hand towels are more like the hand wipes you get in really nice hotel lobby bathrooms, not cotton, Mosquitos waking us up all night(how did they get in??) over starched sheets that make your skin hurt and subpar breakfast.
If we were to do it again, we would def opt for something slightly more expensive in a similar location.

Sylvia Martella was by far the most helpful hotel employee we encountered in three weeks of travel in Israel and Italy. She was cheerful, spoke excellent English, and helped us in many ways, from tracking lost clothing at a previous hotel to recommending a vineyard in Chianti. If you need a hotel in Florence close to the train station and major sights, Sylvia would certainly make the Croce di Malta a top choice.

Room Tip: Ask for one overlooking the interior courtyard as they are quieter.

The noise from the street and nearby rooms is something I have never experienced so if you're planning a trip to florence and you actually plan to sleep, please be advised to choose another hotel. I also tried to address the noise with the night staff and the guy at the front desk shrugged his shoulders, said no and walked away.

Dear Sir,
We are deeply sorry that your stay was not exactly as you expected, and we would like to apologize for the unacceptable behavior of the person on duty that night.
Usually our staff tries to satisfy all the requests of our guests trying to solve all the problems, that’s why we receive a lot of good comments regarding the efficiency and kindness of our staff. In your case we could have proposed you to switch the room (as not all of them face to the street) or we could have checked if it was something wrong with the window.
We really regret that you didn’t receive for some reason that kind of attention and we hope we will have the opportunity to see you again in our hotel, we are sure you will understand that it was just an exception
Best regards
Silvia Martella

I loved staying here. First of all, it is the perfect location! Right in the center of shops, restaurants, museums, and many amazingly beautiful sites of Florence.
The staff were absolutely the best, kind and always helpful.
The rooms were clean and quaint, with a beautiful sweet balcony overlooking the pool and the courtyard of the hotel.
The breakfasts were not amazing, small selection, and not very tasty.
Overall, I would definitely recommend this hotel for couples or friends.

The reception area looked quite modern and the staff were very nice. The room however had dated and tired looking furnishings and a very small bathroom. These issues went such a big deal compared to the noise level. I had a room facing onto Via della Scala which is a very busy street. There was pretty much constant traffic noise all through the night. In addition, on the Saturday and Tuesday, there was a lot of noise from people who were out partying. The windows did nothing to keep noise out and even when using both the inside and outside shutters, the room was not completely dark. I slept pretty badly most of the time I was there. I also got eaten alive by mosquitoes but I don't blame the hotel for that.

Breakfast was ok. Bread, cheese, ham, coffee, juice, pastries. Although I always seemed to have to sit at a table with someone else's dirty dishes so I think the turnaround on the tables could have been faster.

The shower was fairly good. Bring your own shampoo. There is a safe provided in the room.

The location was fantastic. However, Florence is fairly concentrated such that a lot of hotels could be considered central. I'd recommend going with a different one.

There was a swimming pool but, as it was November, I didn't try it out. There was no gym or spa.
