Owner description: Palazzo della Signoria, better known as Palazzo Vecchio, has been the symbol of the civic power of Florence for over seven centuries. Among the works of art safeguarded in the museum: the Cortile di Michelozzo; Michelangelo’s celebrated Victory in the Salone dei Cinquecento; Donatello’s Judith in the Sala dei Gigli; the private rooms of the Medici court and among these the marvellous Cappella di Eleonora, the chapel with paintings by Agnolo Bronzino.

I really enjoyed this. After watching the National Geographic special on looking for the Di Vinci behind the Vasari, it was great to be in that hall. The apts were great, don't forget to look up! And down! I loved the ceilings and the floors. I have to say I appreciated a couple of the cabinets with the inlay as well. Staff were polite and friendly when we were there.

We have been coming to Florence for almost 30 years. There is always so much to learn and to see. One of our favorites sites is The Piazza della Signoria. Can you believe we have never, until today taken a tour of The Palazzo Vecchio. Well, it is an incredible medieval Palace, completed in 1322 as a town hall. Then,In 1540 Duke Cosimo moved in and made it his home.
On the second floor is the grand Room of the Five Hundred. There you will see Michelangelo's Victory statue placed in front of the frescoe depicting the battle of Sienna. The walls and ceiling are covered with huge frescoes of Florence's history. On the third floor are the apartments of Cosimo's family. There are rooms of Cosimo's wife Eleonora decorated with scenes of strong and virtuous women worth seeing and reading about. There is also a wonderful room of maps, showing the world as they saw it then.

Of all the ruling families of the renaissance era (Della Rovere, Borgia, Sforza and so on), The Medici were probably the most important and rich of these families, and visiting this museum will only show you that!

Look up for the entrance room filled with Vasari's and Michelangelo's. The Sala Dei 500 is probably one of the most beautiful rooms you'll ever have the chance to visit in Italy.

Nice museum filled with paintings depicting the history of Florence. Here you see paintings of battles won. Different art collected by the Medici family.

There is very little in the way of furnishings in this palace but the decoration on the ceilings is worth a visit. The rooms have adequate information boards so you know the function of each area but the decoration is breathtaking.
