Description: "La Cucina del Garga" arrived on the Florence restaurant scene when Chef Alessandro Gargani returned from an 8 year run as Executive Chef in New York City's famous "Mezzogiorno Restaurant" in SOHO. It is there that he practiced his craft, honed his recipes and started his family. From an early age, his parents Sharon Oddson and Giuliano Gargani AKA "Il Garga" had instilled in him their passion for food and art. In 2010, he returned to his hometown to continue the family tradition born at The Trattoria in Via del Moro and then brought here to Via San Zanobi. The restaurant is an art gallery as well as showcase where talented local artists have the opportunity to show their work and customers can purchase paintings or sculptures to enrich their own private collections.

We were staying in a hotel around the corner and discovered this restaurant when exploring the neighborhood. What a wonderful find! It was busy, with great atmosphere. The food was excellent, and good value for Florence. Traditional Italian food with a modern twist. The service was superb - they took good care of us throughout the evening. The walls are covered with an eclectic selection of art, to create a lovely atmosphere. I highly recommend this restaurant.

We had a wonderful meal here on our last night in Florence. The complimentary glass of prosecco and tomato sauce topped bread were lovely; we ordered the calamari starter and the chef also sent us the artichoke starter, both were delicious in particular the calamari with avacado and tomato was devine! Our next course was equally as lovely - tortellini for two of us, cod for one and pasta with brandy sauce for one. Pudding of cheesecake, lemon tart and tiramasu were absolutely gorgeous and all the food was washed down with delicious house wine (red, white and dessert!). All this followed by complimentary grappa which I can't say I enjoyed but all disappeared! The service was excellent! Would definitely return!

I work closely with 15 accomplished chefs and the food and their version of Italian gluten free chocolate here revivals their food. Thank you Trip Advisor for this recommendation. A wonderful first evening in Florence.

Came without a reservation on a Wednesday in the off-season and were seated right away. This is a very elegant restaurant, white tablecloths and walls filled with art. It's romantic and would be a great place to go if you're looking to err on the side of fine dining instead of casual trattoria.

We got their house wine which was lovely, but more expensive than other house wines in Florence. We are cheapies and like the places that give you a liter in a carafe on the table but this more of a fancy "wine list" kind of establishment. To eat we first had Fagioli all' uccelletto, which was beans with sausage and sage in tomato sauce. Followed that up with Tagliatelle del "Magnifico," fettuicine with citrus zest and mint in a creamy sauce, and Osso Bucco (veal shank simmered with chianti). Also a side of chard with roasted garlic (simple but yum!)

Everything was good, but the only memorable dish was the pasta. The beans and the veal are quite rustic dishes, and nothing they did to them here reinvented the wheel. As well they shouldn't, but you could get the same dishes at a trattoria for much less money. But the pasta is certainly worth a taste. It was so creative and full of the most inspired flavor!

My recommendation is to order something that sounds unique, something you haven't seen on other restaurant menus in Florence. Look for something you can only get here and get it - anything else will be just as good and cheaper elsewhere. Get elegant food to match your surroundings and you'll feel you are getting your money's worth!
