The walk up the stairs made you feel humble about the people who made and worked on the Duomo.
The stairs get a bit narrow and steep towards the top.
But what a view and feeling you get from the top of the dome.
Being close to the painted ceiling was special and you get a great view of the artwork that you didn't get from the ground.
Get you shoes on and climb it.
10euro is well worth it.
Also did the bell tower a few years ago. Recommend that as well if your up to it.

Visited the Duomo because it was listed as a must see. It is lovely, but that is the best that I can say for it. If you take into account it's history and the architecture, then it has a greater impact. But it is a quick stop on your tour. Kids tire of these things very fast.

This a beautiful Cathedral but be respectful. Talking is completely discouraged. Women are expected to wear clothing that covers the knees and shoulders. If you don't, plan on purchasing an expensive cover or being turned away. Men should expect the same but with slighter leniency. This is a site that is still in use by those practicing there religion. There was no entry fee but donations were accepted. The dome is spectacular and there is a crypt you can pay to visit. If you would like to hike to the top of the dome, be prepared for it to be strenuous hike and there is a fee for it as well.

This is the centerpiece of Piazza Del Duomo. The architecture of the church is very intricate especially the ceiling. Unfortunately, we couldn't take an audio tour but I am sure that would help to the experience if we know the history behind it. And yes, just like all major churches in Europe, they are quite strict with the dress code - no bare shoulders and knees should be covered. I would also recommend going up the Duomo to get the best sites of Florence city. You will have to go through some winding and narrow staircases to reach the top. You have some breaks in between, adored with statues plus one passage where you can see the ceiling much more closely. A bit daunting, but every bit worth it. Just for information, we had to wait for around 20 mins in the queue for visiting the top.

The clim up to the top of the Cupola was hard work, I think its almost 500 steps. The view from up there is spectacular though.
