Like any famous site in Florence, this one can be jammed with tourists, so go early or late. Once inside, there's not that much to see other than the building itself since most of its most famous works of art have been moved to museums. But don't miss the inside of Brunelleschi's famous dome. Brace yourself with your back to a wall and gaze up. The painted saints and angels lead you upward to the open skies and a glimpse of heaven. It can be dizzying.
