“Great New Cooking Class”
Reviewed February 3, 2014

On a recent trip to Paris I decided to stop by Florence for a couple days to see friends, and stay in my favorite hotel, the Torre di Bellosguardo. Even though it was winter, as far as I know Tuscany has escaped the Polar Vortexes and blizzards that have plagued my home in New York City this winter. So it was pleasant walking around the city, stopping in to museums, visiting friends, and sampling restaurants. But the highlight for me, once again, was the Torre. It is, quite simply, magnificent, with a view of Florence through the frescoed windows that still makes my jaw drop. This time the Torre had a new attraction: a cooking class and dinner with the warm, welcoming Baroness Ana Franchetti, wife of the Torre's owner Amerigo Franchetti. This class was no vanity project--Ana is a professional chef who ran her own restaurant back in her native Portugal. The class was held in the gourmet kitchen of the Franchetti's private villa on the Torre's grounds. Ana took us through all the Florentine classics, from crostini to risotto to steak fiorentino, and I even got a chance to make tagliatelle from scratch. Ana uses the Torre's own produce wherever possible, whether herbs, olive oil, or wine, with vegetables and fruits from the Torre's garden during season. I had fun cooking with Ana and learned a lot, then got to enjoy the results over dinner at their big farmhouse table. I walked off with a full stomach, lovely experience of dining in someone's home, and folder containing all the recipes so I can try to duplicate them for my friends back home.

Dear Guest,

What fun and pleasure it was meeting you as well as experiencing the cooking class. It is always a joy to share my little knowledge about cooking with "pupils" as eager as you were. I hope we can repeat the experience next time you stay in Bellosguardo.
Returning guests like you make worth while all our efforts to keep this place as genuine as possible.

What a wonderful place !. We had a fantastic stay in this magic hotel. The view on the city down the hill is amazing. The garden is magic too. The staff is welcoming and qualified. The interior decoration is sober and chic. There is a lovely and delightful restaurant at 15 minutes by walk.
It is a perfect place for a week end in couple or a longest stay in family.

I've been at Torre di Bellosguardo probably 20 times, all extremely positive. In winter it's even more quiet and charming.
The owner is awesome and staff are so nice and helpful. The rooms of course are very clean, beds are very comfortable(they are antique!). Everything is superb. Thanks you guys!
I advice you walk through colli fiorentini to the city and come back - unforgettable walk and views.
You go to Torre di Bellosguardo not like just in a hotel, where you just stay, eat, sleep. It's a point of interest, a sight that you must visit and where you can even stay. You won't be able not to fall in love with this place.
Summarizing, taking in consideration the hotel building, rooms, amenities, the view, the charm, staff - for me it's one of the best hotels ever!

ps: Try Bomba cocktail at the bar...but not more then two!
pps: they don't have a restaurant, but you can order food from one of the best restaurants in Florence - La Vecchia Bettola

Room Tip: Try to book a room with view over Florence. Even if you pay a bit more it definitely worth it!

It's really a unique place. Sure that it is the best place in Florence to stay and one of the best in the world. For sure i would like to visit it again. I was charmed by the most beautiful views of Florence, garden, perfect and unobtrusive service and, of course, the interiors. It doesn't seem that you're staying in the hotel. I felt like in paradise. I forgot about all problems, about my job. Everything here transfer you to "another world". I was really happy there)) The perfect place for wedding and honeymoon))) Thanks to my boyfriend, who showed me this woderful place)

The discerning traveler will discover that the Torre Di Bellosguardo is a charming alternative to Florence's crowded urban accommodations. Once a Medici hunting lodge, it is an elegant small hotel situated high above the crowded city. Over many years it has been restored impeccably to become a serene resort boasting large, beautifully furnished air-conditioned bedrooms, modern bathrooms, an impressive "great hall" and spacious terraces. The amenities include lovely gardens, unrivaled views of the city, extensive athletic facilities, including both indoor and outdoor swimming pools. Highly recommended!

We stayed in Florence for the Xmas and had wonderful experience in Bellosguardo so far. This hotel is built in an old house, with beautiful deco and scenery itself and wonderful view of Florence the city. Staffs here are superb, very friendly and helpful. The hotel is also very close to the river, easy access to museums and many outstanding restaurants. My family really enjoy staying here. We booked 6 nights here - 3 more to go :-)
