“The best of Italy...”
Reviewed July 17, 2013

A stunning view, elegance without being formal or stuffy, serene and lush gardens surrounding the "pool with a view," and more than a little art and history combined to make this former villa the perfect place to stay in Florence. My son literally spilled out of the car upon arrival, took one look at the view, and declared, "I found Italy!" The location on a hill above the city was a big plus, and made our stay as relaxing as it was exciting. The large rooms were full of authentic Old World charm while being completely comfortable, the hosts and staff were warm, welcoming, knowledgeable, and helpful. The walk down into town was charming, and there were buses and taxis readily available (as well as great gelato, a wonderful restaurant, and the Boboli Gardens) at the bottom of the hill. The peacefulness and quiet beauty of the hotel were a welcome respite from the bustle and heat of the city. Accommodations can truly set the tone for a vacation, and this hotel and the people running it made this my most memorable stay in Florence by far. This is truly a special place, in every sense, and will delight all your senses.

Positives - exclusivity, the views, rooms and ambience, quiet and efficient service, breakfast on the terrace
(Slight) Negatives - no on-site restaurant (evening meal can be pre-ordered and served in-house, but its not the same), not really walk-able into centre of town - best to get a taxi

Room Tip: Double aspect room on floor 3 had Florence out of one window and the Tuscan hills out of the other.

Dear Guest,
Thank you for your review.
We would like to have a restaurant, but then it would have to be first class and we have too few rooms as well as huge maintenance costs. I hope you understand. In any case we are happy you enjoyed your stay in Bellosguardo.

We recently stayed in Florence for 5 nights and could not have picked a better place than this wonderful hotel. The hotel gives you the authentic feel of Florence in a day-gone-by. The room was lovely, large for Florence and very clean. The views of Florence are spectacular. The lunches by the pool were fantastic. Cannot say enough about the helpfulness of Cosimo. He is a gem. He was always pleasant and went out of his way to help us. I would gladly stay here again, should someone want to fund a trip to Italy for us.

It is very old, beautiful and not possibly for everyone, but it feels like you are staying in history, not a hotel. You have the multitudes of tourists in Florence then get away to your gardens, poolside treats and terrific views. Though no restuarant, our friendly staff, Giusseppe made us feel like we were at a restuarant, bringing us prosecco and then food from down the hill, even take out Firenze pasta and bread soup is delicious. But you must like old, our room looked out over the country side with fresco walls and ceilings, a piano, a metal key from the Medici days to open the old small door. We like hiking so the path down the hill to town was actually a highlight and the best gelato was waiting for us at the bottom and it wasn't Vivoli.

Our first visit in 2003 for our wedding in Florence, it was beautiful then and if possible with the new front lawn even more ...
Same room (12) stunning views, clean and fresh rooms, lovely breakfast but what we remembered from 2003 was the delicious lunches round the pool. Low tables with a white linen tablecloth, a choice of Tom/mozzarella, smoked salmon or parma ham/melon salads...simply but so fresh!! Beautiful architecture inside and out, we would never stay anywhere else in our favourite city!!

Consistently elegant, warm and welcoming. After a 14 year interval, the 'tower w/ a beautiful view' was just the same. Even the old parrot was still there. It is really impossible to describe this old villa w/ gorgeous gardens. The service is impeccable and surrounds 'old world' with every convenience. I do not know why anyone would stay in Florence, when this paradise is close by.

Dear Guest,
It was wonderful to see you again and we are delighted that you found Bellosguardo unchanged and unspoilt despite all the hidden improvements carried out throughout the years, such as air conditioning in the entire hotel, underground garage etc. We look forward to you returning again one day. Thank you very much for your review.

An exceptional hotel with real character and the feeling of a place you never want to leave. The staff are all friendly and helpful, the hotel and gardens retain are beautifully kept, and the pool must have one of the best views in Italy. Great to get out of the city in the hot afternoons and view the Duomo etc from this hillside idyll. And 10 minutes walk through vineyards and olive groves into the city. Great restaurants and trips recommended by the helpful and informative staff who really care about you and their hotel.
