Owner description: Opened to the public in 1869, this museum houses the largest collection of sacred art in Florence including a sweeping fresco by Giovanni Antonio Sogliani and a superb collection of works by Mariotto Albertinelli.

A rather refreshing museum after all the glitz and glamour of the main sights. Lovely, serene cloisters with the wonderful frescoes of Fra Angelico, followed by the monk's cells each with it's own fresco. But for me, the highlight was the exquisite and beautifully displayed illuminated books. The detail was amazing and I even managed to recall some of my Latin in an endeavour to translate some of the text.

This museum has frescoes and religious paintings by Fra Angelico which are stunning. Just round the corner from the Accademia yet with none of the queues. See the replica David in the square outside the Uffizi instead of the real thing and go to this museum.

We didn't expect too much from this venue, as its a bit out from the other attractions (only about 15 minutes), but it was worth visiting. Some amazing paintings !

Seeing the beautiful frescos by Fra Angelico was one of the highlights of my visit to Florence. Most of the cells were roped off so that you couldn't see the frescos close-up, but that's understandable to protect them. Being there was a moving experience for me.

This is a lovely calm space. The frescos by Fra Angelica are wonderful. Compared with some of the other locations there were relatively few visitors. The guidebook on sale at the entrance is really useful. I would go back here if I was in Florence again.
