This is one of my favourite spots in Florence. I love going up there just a little bit before sunset especially in winter. The shop has some great unique presents and 'cures' - they have a great cream for arthritis sufferers made from bee venom (!) - it's great. The church itself is wonderful inside - it's like it hasn't changed since mediaeval times. Highly recommended. One word of advice, if walking up from Piazzale Michelangelo, cross the road at the zebra crossing by the cheap looking cafes - the one further up around the bend is extremely dangerous as the cars go flying around the bend.

I decided to visit this church while I was in Florence as according to TripAdvisor, it's the #1 attraction. I walked for hours to reach there, what I found was an average church specially after seeing Duomo-Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore which is way amazing. I admit that the view from Basilica di San Miniato al Monte is stunning as you can see all Florence from the top.

Well, for a start you get a stunning view of the city from here and there are benches from which to enjoy it. Zeffirelli's family tomb is just outside, too. The church is beautiful inside with a wonderful mosaic apse and muralled walls. It costs 2 euro for lights and with that you get a history of the building too. A place of peace.

This is one of the finest and most remarkable churches in Florence. Open till about 20:00 and allow enough time to enjoy it to the last detail and also with free admission

Great views and a short walk from the nearby piazza , not much to see inside , can't see why this is no1 sight in florence but maybe only for the views.
