Definitely go on a Monday if you can to visit the museum and see the original sculptures of the replicas that are placed in the niches outside the church. The interior of the church is beautifully decorated as well, so even if you visit a different day, it is worth the experience.

I discovered this church because on the outside there is a ticket bboth that sells last minute tickets to both the Accademia and Uffizi and all you pay is the regular price of the ticket plus a service charge of 4 euros. This is for real. Tickets are from the Flornece museum. I had reservations for the Accadmia by hotel but had conflict with other reservation for Pallazzio Vecchio tour and on my way to tour for Pallazzio I was able able to purchase tickets for the following day at 10:15 am to Accademia for family of four and did not make a line outside. This is one of Florence's best kept secrets.
The church is free to visit and it is worth it for the artwork and beautiful altar. Masterpieces by some of the best known artist in Firenze.

One of the joys of our trip to Italy was stopping in churches that were pretty much unknown to us and explore the wonderful art in them. Orsanmichele is not to be missed! The museum is only opened on Mondays, so if you are in Florence on a Monday, go there! Even if you cannot get into the museum (no charge), there are copies of the original statues in their arches on the outside of the building. There are works by Donatello, Ghiberti, Verrocchio, et. al. The church and the museum highlight the importance of the guilds to life in the Middle Ages. You can find evidence throughout the structure honoring the guilds and their contributions.

The Church of Orsanmichele is located close to the Dome, and is a beautifully decorated one. Inside the photos are not allowed with flash, even though the guards told me that all the photos are forbidden. Anyway, is a quiet and peaceful place of worship and the entrance is free to the museum (open only Monday) and to the church.
