Owner description: This extraordinary structure testifies to the historic evolution of the city, which once served as a granary in the gardens of the Sisters of San Michele during Florence's mercantile period.

The Church of Orsanmichele is a beautiful 14th century building, originally a grain store but subsequently transformed into a place of worship. Entry to the church is free, as it is to the museum, which is only open on Mondays. The museum exhibits the statues that formerly decorated the exterior of the church and is well worth a visit. There are also grand views over the city from the museum.

Located on the way to the Piazza della Signoria from the Duomo, it has become almost missed. There is a statue of a variety of artisans to the outer wall of the building, you do not look like a valid church much, but quaint and outside was quite different there is a chapel inside. Cage the guards inside, photography was prohibited.

The museum, which houses all of the original statues which used to be displayed in the outside niches at the Orsanmichele church is only open on Mondays. To enter the museum, you must enter Orsanmichele church, make an immediate left, then climb a long flight of steps. The museum exhibits are well sign posted and offers commentary on each of the statues. Photos are not allowed. The museum is free, but a donation is appreciated.

You can then climb to the higher level which offers spectacular views of Florence and the surrounding area. Photos are permitted in this room.

Orsanmichele church is a beautiful.ancient church with an incredible altar and art works. Photos are not permitted so just sit and enjoyed the beauty.

Outside, you have numerous sculptures of biblical evangelists and St George, latter by Donatello. Inside, an exquisite ensemble of altarpieces and paintings by Orcagna, among others.
