“IMPOSING BUILDING FULL OF INTERESTING THINGS”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 3, 2013

Orsanmichele is such a beautiful place: a bit church and a bit "storage" of history.
Is rather amazing see the church from some high place in Florence to realise how imposing
is the building and how not so remarkable from street level.
I love the quietness of the place in comparison to other churches in Florence.
Need an absolute stop to admire and contemplate.

“The altar will make you weep!”

A must see in Florence. The altar is a masterpiece and I found it emotionally overwhelming. No charge to enter the church.

“A gothic church in Renaissance Florence”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 11, 2013

Even though this wonderful church was in the neighbourhood where my hotel was situated, I came upon this purely by chance. And what a lucky chance it was. All along the waklls are beautiful sculptures and inside one can not but help get amazed at the high vaulted ceilings and the gold detailed alter piece. This beautiful stone structure used to be originally a grannary and is worth a visit.

“Not to be missed”

Astounding gothic marble altar with a beautiful altar piece. A church which used to be a granary and gives a flavour of the importance of guilds in medieval Florence.

“A simple church with an interesting history...”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 29, 2013

A square church that was originally a grain market - its exterior is decorated with 14 statues (copies) paid for by craftsman's guilds in the 15th century (and representative of the best artists of the time). A superb outdoor gallery of fine sculpture, well worth including in our itinerary.
