I think that most visitors to Florence have an interest in art, architecture, history or just the Renaissance period in general, but if none of this interests you, then don't both to visit this landmark. On the other hand, if any of this catches your fancy, you don't want to miss this one!

This is a wonderful piazza with copies of the statues you cannot take pictures of in the Uffizi Gallery and the Accademia. It is bordered by Palazzo Vecchio and the Uffizi Gallery. I would recommend going in the early morning or on a rainy day. The crowds are thick. The first time I visited it was in the afternoon. The raised area of statues was so packed with people it was impossible to get any pictures. I came back one morning when it was raining. There were a few hardy souls out. I was able to get nice pictures of the copy of David and the fountain. There were very few people on the raised area where more of the statues are and it is covered so it was dry. It is a very nice way to get a close look at copies of the statues that are in the galleries.

This is a fabulous place to see great statues and people watch! Wow! It is just marvelous. The David is here, so save some cash and forgo the Academia! Seriously, it seems a little bigger there, but really no difference.

We loved going to Piazza Della Signoria.to See the sculptures. It is a great place to get a gelato or get a drink at one of the cafés. The sculptures are very beautiful and are free to look at. The people watching is great. The David is a copy but there are other original sculptures there.

Go there late at night after the tourists have gone and be awe-struck by the immensity of the architecture and the sculpture -- or go early in the morning before the tourists arrive and feel the the square getting itself presentable, preparing itself for the onslaught. And visit when the place is full or tourists and the ubiquitous hawkers are peddling their crazy flying toys. Whenever you go, the great piazza never fails to make a deep impression, mainly, I think, because of the scale of the great buildings and the volume of the huge space. And when you begin to think about all the history that took place in this very spot it might just make a shiver run right down your spine.
