“A Real Gem!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 15, 2009

Hotel Casci is not the poshest spot around, but the staff and location make it 5-star! We only stayed one night, but the staff was just the most welcoming and friendly we'd encountered. We felt like we were visiting family, not staying in a hotel. Although it comes across as a bit of a collegiate backpackers spot, there were plenty of couples and "regular" folks there, too:-) Our room was at the back, and was a little bit of a maze to get to. But once, we knew the way, it was easy. Room was nice sized, although the bathroom was a bit small. Very clean, quiet and comfortable. In the morning, we were missing an important toilletry item, and called the front desk to see if they had one. The didn't at first, but then 3 minutes later, they showed up with one at our door! Fantastic service. We also were a bit late making it to breakfast, but they were very welcoming and allowed us to have breakfast even though they were just cleaning up. Hotel is not on the ground floor, so it can be a bit confusing to find. Also, the elevator is a bit small, so if you have big or many bags, it might take a few trips to get up there. Great location, just a block from the leather market, many many restaurants around, and only a short stroll to the city center. We would definitely stay here again if we were in Florence!

Booked because of good recommendations on the web and walking distance to tourist sights. The staff made us feel welcome from the first moment. Room was clean and very quiet; the latter was unexpected considering the hotel is in the center of the city. Staff at front desk were very helpful with everything from advance reservations for Uffizi and David, to dinner suggestions & reservations, to train schedules and more. Highly recommend.

We stayed in Florence for three nights during our Italian honeymoon, and we loved the staff at Hotel Casci! From the moment we arrived, we felt at home and very welcomed! It was such a nice thing to hear an office staff was warm and inviting, and spoke English very well!! They were also very helpful, and would make recommendations if needed. The hotel is kept very clean, the rooms are on the small side, but all that you really need, and we even got a nice big tub in our room!

If you are thinking of hotels of Florence, I would recommend Hotel Casci!

This hotel is definitely a "2" star hotel. Do not expect any more then that. The free wi-fi is nice, the check in was good, location good, other then that it was just okay. It was a little loud at night. The people seemed friendly at times and unfriendly at others. The reviews are a little misleading on this website. I am hoping to clarify expectations so people can go into it with realistic expectations. Hope this helps.

Casci, Paolo Lombardi, Manager at Hotel Casci, responded to this review, June 13, 2009
First of all we would like to thank these and all other guests for their comments, as their opinions are an invaluable help for us, in order to keep and constantly improve our service to them.
As far as this specific comment goes, we are a small family run hotel - we are proud of that and we have never ever claimed to be anything more - our establishment is not luxurious, but it offers a clean and homely accomodation right in the centre of Florence with a great emphasis on the friendly and family atmosphere - we like our guests to feel like friends and it looks that the vast majority of our guests know and appreciate that, as anybody is able to read from the comments on Tripadvisor - some people may not feel comfortable with that and prefer fancy and big (sometimes impersonal) hotels and in that case our hotel is not the right one for them.
We also try to offer a few pluses that usually one does not find in small hotels, like free WI-FI, flat screen TV's and DVD in each room, tour and museum reservation service, buffet breakfast, etc. and usually guests are happy to find them.
What really upsets us is the mention that we are not always friendly - if that were the case, first of all we would need to find a different job - in any case, better than any of our words, the reply to such an unfair criticism can be read on all other reviews on Tripadvisor, as it seems that practically they all agree on the fact that we run a friendly establishment and try our utmost to make our guests feel welcome and happy in a friendly way - I think that all such comments are a much better answer and we like to thank again all guests who appreciate our efforts in making their stay with us an enjoable one.

This hotel is truly a gem. The location is perfect, the staff is friendly and extremely helpful, the room was large and clean and completely air-conditioned, there is free internet connection, and the breakfast and staff delightful. I cannot imagine a better place to stay in Florence.

This is a great family run hotel. Everything you need is right here and they even provide an inexpensive laundry service. I'm not sure why it is only rated as a 2 star and not a 3 star. If you are looking for over the top luxury this hotel is not for you. If you are looking for a spotless well run hotel where the people bend over backwards to make sure evrything is perfect than this is a fantastic choice.

After reading the other glowing reviews I feel this will be a bit redundant, but our experience with Hotel Casci was so extraordinary I have to add our opinion. The staff, especially Paolo, was the most sincerely helpful of any I have ever encountered. We had a brief but awful travel panic when I read in my guidebook that we needed to have gotten an international drivers license in order to rent a car in Italy. We had gone to the Italian AAA equivalent where the same guidebook said we could get one in Italy and received no help and were told by them to go to the "tribunale". (What a nightmare that would have been!) Feeling helpless and confused, and afraid the rest of our tour was in jeopardy, we instead returned to Hotel Casci even though we had already checked out. The ever friendly and helpful Paolo, who speaks perfect English, immediately took over and made the calls in both Italian and English to confirm that we didn't actually need it.

Another outstanding point is that even though this conveniently located hotel is on a very busy loud street, our room was completely quiet. We love Hotel Casci and will certainly return should we find ourselves in Florence again.
