I really struggled with giving this hotel a 3 star because there is nothing bad to say about this hotel; however it didn't have the wow of the 3 stars we stayed at in Rome and Venice. It is a basic hotel. The room was a good size and very clean. Breakfast was good. The location is probably one of the best parts of staying here - easy walk to all the Florence attractions and less than 10 minutes from the train station. If you want a no frills place to stay at a good price - this is a great place for you. If you need some ambiance, you may be disappointed.

My husband and I recently stayed at Hotel Casci. I chose it based on the fact that it's a smaller family run hotel, and the trip advisor reviews, and I was not disappointed. It's very central and has excellent internet access (an important thing for us, as we're having to work while we travel).

We arrived flustered and with our hire car (on our way to drop it off). The young gentleman on the desk was so helpful, with my luggage, information on getting the car back (driving in Florence city has a few tricks!) and also on how to get into the galleries. I hadn't booked tickets to Uffizi (I was a bit disorganised) and he recommended us to join a tour, organised it for us and it was a great investment! He also gave us great restaurant recommendations and booked us in. :-) The food was fantastic! I think it was called something like Accadamia (please forgive the appalling spelling)?

The rooms were older (not surprising, it's a 600 year old building!) but they were very clean and fairly spacious. Old, but lovely and great for the price.

The air conditioning was excellent.

Breakfast was plentiful, fresh and friendly with great service.

There's also a laundry service, which is great. For 20 Euros they'll wash and dry a whole load for you! How fantastic! I'd rather that, than sit for hours in a laundromat wasting time in Florence. I didn't get to use it (as we didn't stay for two nights) but I thought it was worth mentioning as laundry is always a bit of a hassle when you're travelling.

My husband and I would definitely stay again. We really enjoyed it here at Hotel Casci. Thanks Lombardi family!

Room Tip: Perhaps ask for a room with windows that open, if that's important to you. Ours didn't, but...

No negatives at the Casci. Super clean, friendliest staff in Florence, central to all major attractions, breakfast is extensive. I've stayed there eight years in a row and never had anything but a wonderful experience. Many of the bathrooms have been redone and are spotless. Plenty of hot water. Improvements every year. One-day laundry service. Free computer in the lobby. Carla Lombardi and her son Paolo personally greet guests and see to their comfort. They make reservations, recommend restaurants, show you how to get around Florence -- and personally you serve breakfast. They simply go way out of their way to make sure you enjoy your stay in Florence and at their hotel. Delightful, delightful place to stay.

We are a family with two young children, so traveling presents us with its own set of challenges. Staying in youth hostels is out of the question, but five star hotels are a bit too extravagant for us. What we seek out are places that are nice and clean, family friendly, reasonably priced, and in a good location. Ideally, it will give us a unique experience that is characteristic of the places that we are visiting. That is exactly what we found at the Hotel Casci.

Located in the heart of Florence, the hotel is clean, comfortable, warm and inviting. It is very family friendly, and in a great location, about a five minute walk to the Basilica di Santa Maria del Fiore. The staff made us feel very welcome, and made our stay most enjoyable. I believe that it is a family run hotel. There is a lovely little lounge in the front where you can have refreshments, and the restaurant serves a wonderful breakfast that is included with the room. Personally, I love staying at places that come with breakfast, because it’s my favorite meal of the day, and it works well with the children.

We had just landed in Florence after an overnight flight from Boston, so needless to say, we were exhausted. To add to the drama, the airline lost our bags, so we had one more thing to deal with, though they had located them quickly and they arrived at the hotel that evening. We arrived at the Hotel Casci and they showed us to our room, where we took a moment to get situated. The hotel itself is not overly extravagant, but it’s very nicely decorated and comfortable, not to mention clean. Though we didn’t get a suite, there was a bit of separation between the beds, so the kids had the feeling of having their own room, which was spacious with a clean bathroom.

We slept very well on our first night, and even though the hotel is in the heart of the city, where it can get pretty noisy, it wasn’t bad in our room. There are double windows that open onto a main street, and even thought there is a lot of activity down on street level, the noise was never a problem. The beds were clean and comfortable, and the bathrooms spacious and well maintained.

During the day we liked to open the window and listen to the all the activity. We really enjoyed the breakfast, which was a sort of buffet with all sorts of delicious baked goods, fresh fruit, cold cuts, and cheeses. As with almost every breakfast we had throughout Europe, there was yogurt. They had an espresso machine that made hot chocolate and cafe Americano, and there was plenty of juice and milk. They were really nice to the kids. You can tell that it was a family operation because of the warmth.

After Florence we traveled through Italy and Croatia, and before flying back to the States, we stayed one more night in Florence at the Hotel Casci, and we looked forward to our return trip. It was like coming home, and we really enjoyed seeing everyone again. They greeted us back warmly, and we got to spend one more really enjoyable day in Florence.

All in all, we loved staying at the Hotel Casci. It’s a great place for families with young children, not only for the value and hospitality, but it’s a fantastic location. I highly recommend it.

This is a great little hotel in central Florence. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful, the rooms are clean, comfortable and spacious for a central location. Hot water for showers/bathing was plenitful and the breakfast was tasty and set us up for the day. The staff spoke excellent English (and tolerated our attempts at Italian with good grace!) and helped us book tickets to art galleries, recommended restaurants, and looked up train and bus times for us to get to Sienna and the coast.
We had a great stay here and I'd thoroughly recommend it.

Room Tip: A room at the back - no view but very quiet.

I recently had a stay at Hotel Casci and could not be more pleased. The family run hotel and it's staff could not have been more friendly, accomodating or helpful. They assisted us with parking (having a valet promptly pick up and deliver our car when needed), dinner plans and general advice on where to sightsee and how to get there. The room and the hotel in general was spotless and recently renovated. Comfortable bed, nice TV and immaculate bathroom. Location is outstanding - close proximity to all Floence has to offer. Generous breakfast spread was included. If there was a Hotel Casci in every town we visited, it would be an easy choice on where we would stay.

Read the reviews and booked a stay. The hotel is located on the second floor. Took an elevator that stuck going up. My first reaction was run... My second reaction was run!! But where too. This hotel is one step up from the YMCA. Old hard beds and one well used pillow. Your afraid to walk without your shoes. Ended up staying. The staff at breakfast was very accommodating you almost want to forgive the general hotel condition, but not at $200+ a night. Don't get me wrong, it's a good hotel but not for the money or the high ratings.

Casci, Manager at Hotel Casci, responded to this reviewResponded October 3, 2012

We are grateful to these guests for their comment and we are sorry to hear that their experience with our hotel did not match their expectations. However, by examining the comments posted on other places they have visited, it is obvious that they are used to high standard hotels (Hilton/Vendome 5 stars, etc.) and maybe they expected us to be on that level.
Instead, we are a small family run hotel - we are proud of that and we have never ever claimed to be anything more. At the same time, we also try to offer a few pluses that usually one does not find in small hotels, like free WI-FI, flat screen TV's and DVD's, multi charging station in each room, tour and museum reservation service, buffet breakfast, etc. and usually guests are happy to find them.
I have to say that very, very few of our guests have ever mentioned that our beds are not comfortable – mattresses and beds are practically new, as they have been changed two/three years ago, whilst pillows are changed yearly. And the same applies to cleanliness and in fact practically all comments on Tripadvisor mention how clean our hotel and rooms are.
We cannot understand what the guests mean by the 'general hotel condition' - maybe the guests did not appreciate the fact that the building is around six hundred years old, but of course it has been renovated and updated.
As far as the our rates go, we are aware that Florence is an expensive city, but at the same time we know that our rates are correct for the kind of services we offer - in fact in Florence high star hotels are much, much more expensive.
As already stated several times, if clients look for a high star luxury accomodation, Hotel Casci is not their target, as we are a small family managed hotel, even if we strive to offer high standards of helpfulness, efficiency, cleanliness, technology – the high rating shows that most clients are more than satisfied and in fact we have many and many who come and stay with us year after year, but of course you cannot please everyone at all times.
