“the building is worth the visit”
Reviewed June 21, 2013

the building itself is worth the visit, but the sculptures inside are amazing, specially donatello's san giorgio and other masterpieces. Coudn't believe it was once a prison.

“Donatello lives here”
Reviewed June 20, 2013

Can't tell you all about this museum because I went mainly to see the Donatello room (one floor up.) There is Saint George looking rather stolid but that's in contrast to the wonderfully lithe David. This is a less than life-size bronze sculpture but you won't soon forget it. I think Donatello was at the height of his skill here--there is such a beautiful balance between smooth, flowing areas and textured and detailed portions. This is a reflective David, looking down quietly at the severed head of Goliath. Memorably, Donatello puts a graceful shepherd's hat (and not much else) on him. Nearby is Verocchio's David which makes an interesting contrast; it pictures a brash, confident boy rather than the beautiful youth of Donatello. Don't miss the saucy cherub, Amoure, in the same room. He's a fawn and has a little tail!

“Quiet haven of sculptures”
Reviewed June 18, 2013

Definitely worth a visit, this is situated in the heart of Florence and is not too expensive. On a hot day it is cool inside and the many very significant sculptures are fascinating. Particularly liked the room with Donatello's David(s). Like almost every Italian museum it needs a little more information (in English). Just a few lines for each exhibit would be helpful and probably great fun for a curator to write. Not all of us walk around with our noses in guide books. Elaborate security at the door (X ray scanner) implied it was bombing target, which seems far fetched - a bomb would not dent that building and there were only a handful of visitors.

“Don't miss it. Not crowded”
Reviewed June 15, 2013

Cheaper than other near museums, it has great art pieces and sculptures as Donatello's David (incredibly beautiful) and Bachus by Michelangelo, and many, many others.
It's also a nice building (palazzo). Really worth the visit.
Best of all, great art and not crowded!

“THE Florence Museum for Sculpture”
Reviewed June 15, 2013

This was my third trip to Florence but the first time making it to this museum. It is simply THE collection of Florentine Renaissance sculpture. While Michelangelo's amazing David has all the fame, Verocchio's David is also a must-see. A small beautiful bronze sculpture with a grin as mysterious as the Mona Lisa. There are great works by Doatello and the only bust (Brutus) that Michelangelo ever made.

I feel silly that I waited until my third trip to see this museum. Try to fit it in your first visit.
