In Florence there are several moments during the year when the museums are open during the night. I once took advantage and without making any queue, I went visiting the museum by night: mysterious, the castle-looking Bargello is really a place to see.
For turists I recommend it only if they're interested in some of less famous Michelangelo's sculpture works, or in Donatello's David.
Also, a nice visit would be during one of the concerts they are occasionally organizing.

compared to the must see Accademia and Uffizi which have to be booked ahead and still involve queuing it was very pleasant to be able to walk straight in to a museum in Florence. Lots of interesting and beautiful sculpture, much by Michaelangelo. The building itself is very atmospheric as at one time it was a prison. There is also a lovely selection of work by della Robbia and Donatella. Lovely to sit in the big Salon of the general Counsil and absorb the atmosphere. the quiet only broken by the assistants shouting at visitors to stop taking photos!

The Bargello closes early so if you want to see Donatello's David and Giambologna's Mercurio as well as some other fantastic sculpture pieces, make sure you make it there early!

In december the second floor was closed, which was not indicated when we purchased the tickets. It is only open in the morning so one has to plan the visit ahead...
There was very little documentation available inthe museum.
The palace is in itself worth a visit...
