Got there early and found no queues. Quite impressed with the building and the exhibits. Don't forget your camera.

The Bargello was the last place we visited on our 5 day trip to Florence. We had tried to visit on a previous day but the museum closes at 1.20pm. We had become a bit "gothic paintinged out" and the Bargello had so many more artifacts - ceramics and sculptures etc. than most of the other museums - we were very impressed.

If you like statues and famous artists, then you will love the Bargello. Like most of Florence's museums the Bargello is a treasure trove of Renaissance art by some of the most storied artists of the period.

We enjoy a lot in this museum, befor to become an art museum Bargello (the word come to latin bargillus meaning castle or fortified tower. The museum houses masterpieces by Michelangelo such as bacchus and the marvellus Pitti tondo.

I have never seen a more underrated museum. It contains Donatello's David, but also much more. There are numerous beautiful sculptures from famous artists, but it is the atmosphere that sets the Bargello apart. No pictures, no tour groups, no pushing. Unlike many other museums, you can get within inches of a sculpture and take your time to appreciate the art in every room. The Bargello is fairly small, and can easily be completed in two hours. Make some time for the Bargello - you won't be disappointed.
