Pre booked tickets to avoid the queues, but it was pretty chaotic.
Had a half hour wait to exchange voucher for ticket then probably almost a hour wait to get into the gallery despite having a preselected time... Everyone seemed to have the same problem.
We didn't pay for audio guide, everything was in Italian so we didn't understand the descriptions.

There are several interesting statues leading up to David that show Michelangelo's general carving process, but frankly, once you round the corner to where he is ... in a domed structure at the end of the wall, you can't help but be mezmorized by him! He is stunning! Also, HIGHLY RECOMMEND the FirenzeCard ... to skip lines at more than 70 museums.

Watch the video of how this would have been sculpted from one piece of marble and it makes the end result all the more remarkable!
Book in advance to avoid queuing

Everyone goes to take a picture with David. Take the time to see the other art there!! And read about Michelangelo and the Prisoners. Look for Bartolini's Arnini and the Medici musical instruments. Book a time in advance or use your Florence Card to go to the short red line. And don't miss Michelangelo's works in the Medici chapel at San Lorenzo.

It's more that Michaelangeo's David, as sublime as the statue is. The upper floor contains a worthwhile collection of religious triptych and polytryptchs which are sumptuous and beautiful, reminding us why religious art was a veneration of artist's expressive talents...
