“David was stunning but be warned...”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 18, 2013 via mobile

Our only interest in this attraction was the statue of David. We had not pre-booked as we weren't sure when we would be there, and after queuing for just shy of two hours, we saw the breathtaking sight that was this magnificent sculpture. It was worth the wait.
The major issue though, they DO NOT ALLOW PHOTOS and you don't find this out until you get inside... Queuing would have been slightly less unpleasant had we not been carrying a solid camera bag for no reason whatsoever.
We also found there to be minimal signposting to the Galleria, or inside to the main attraction.
So book in advance, or wear very comfortable clothes and shoes and prepare to wait. The statue is simply amazing.

“Just What You Think It Will Be”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 18, 2013

Walking the historic town - eating and drinking the smells, tastes, and sounds - and then walking into the Accademia and seeing the famous statue in all of its detailed glory. Be ready to walk all around it and spend at least 20 minutes exploring every vein and muscle detail. Just breathtaking.

“David is everywhere”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 18, 2013

Remember, the original David resides at the Accademia Gallery. The statues at Piazzale Michelangelo and Piazza della Signoria are copies. All are worthy of a visit, but the Accademia is the crowded must see. Bypass the line with a reservation or the expensive Firenze card. Download the Rick Steve's audio guide to your iPod or smart phone.

“A must see museum but very worth booking in advance.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 18, 2013

This museum is worth the visit just to see Michelangelo's David.
Nothing compares to seeing this masterpiece in real life it literally is awe inspiring.
There is a copy of it in Piazza Signoria but it just isn't the same as seeing the original.
This is a fairly small museum and unsurprisingly concentrates on sculpture, depending on how much time you stand staring at the David you can easily go around the whole thing in under an hour.
The best tip that I can give here is to book in advance. We went first thing in the morning with pre-booked tickets ( which have to be booked with a time slot ) and are very glad we did. Even at that time there were queues around the block. I imagine during the busiest times if you don't pre-book you will be waiting for hours to get in.
This museum is a must visit for any art fan or even anybody who just wants to see what many people regard as one of the greatest pieces of art in the world.

“Michelangelo's masterpiece”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 18, 2013

Located inside the Accademia, the statue of David is the highlight of this museum. The quality and perfection of this sculpture is well worth seeing and worthy of all of the hype. To think such a huge piece was crafted from one piece of marble and that Michelangelo completed it after several failed attempts by other sculptors further indicates the incredible talent of this artist.

I is best to get your tickets in advance either at the ticket office or on line. You will waste precious time waiting in line to buy a ticket for same day entry. Booking a group tour will also allow you to skip the lines.
