“David”
Reviewed October 28, 2012

In a small building is located a big draw for one pf the most famous sculptures in the world.

Actually there are 3 David statues in Florence not counting the plaster recreations in public places. This one at the Academia is grouped with the other unfinished marble sculptures (unliberated) by Michaelangelo. Pay attention to the small markings on the Carrera marble left by the master. Also make sure to look at the bigger right hand, head, and the position of the right foot ready to spring; the ibtense look at the left turned face. All these aspects has different interpretations by different art professors. Do not miss the other part of the museum.

“This is a "do not miss" in Florence.”
Reviewed October 27, 2012

Crowded but worth it. We bypassed the line, however. Not sure how I would have felt if I had to stand in line for an hour or more to get in.

“Breathtaking!”
Reviewed October 27, 2012

It's hard to imagine how Michaelangelo created this amazing statue. It's sheer size is unbelievable. We queued up in the ' no reservations' line and even though we were in the line for just under an hour I wished we had paid that little bit extra and skipped the queue.

“The David”
Reviewed October 27, 2012

We love the way the David is displayed. It is perfectly presented and cared for.
We found some of the modern choices of art to be out of place and perhaps disrespectful.
But there were some other wonderful pieces, like the Mercury and The Rape of the Sabine Women by Giambologna.

No question the single most impressive work of art I have ever seen. You stand in wonder and try to imagine how someone could carve something so amazing.
