Owner description: Florence's principal palace was begun in 1299 and built as the seat of the Signoria, the fathers of the city's republican government.

We visited here in early October 2013. The entry is covered with a Florence card to the museum and tower. We had read about the secret passages tour which we booked on line in advance as soon as the times became available for booking. As the numbers on this tour are limited, you have to book in advance or you may miss out on this and it was certainly worth doing to see the secret rooms with paintings that open as windows and doors and a climb above the main hall to see between the painted ceiling and the roof and how it was constructed. The museum has an eclectic mix of artifacts (amazing map room) - all interesting - and the climb to the tower was worth it for the views (248 steps to top).

We bought the Firena Pass (recommended), so it was an easy decision to visit here. Siimilar in nature to the Doge's Palace in Venice, but not quite as ornate. More of a focus on artwork, which was outstanding. We climbed a few steps up the tower and marveled at the beauty of Florence, esp the Grand Duomo. Worth a couple of hours.

Enjoyed this visit- some interesting paintings and good views from the windows. It is much less crowded than the Uffizi so you can take your time going round and actually study the paintings.Worth a visit

Impressive original seat of government, wonderful painted ceilings, each room had fascinating explanations in English.
Even the free ground floor at the front and outside sculptures in the Piazza Signora nearby are worth the visit alone .

For the less agile, ask to use the lift as there are long stairs.

This attraction (Unlike the Uffizi next doo)r honoured the published EU over 65 concession admission rate.
