“Wow”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 24, 2012

We have spent 4 days in Florence and experienced a variety of restaurants but having looked at trip advisor we decided that Tratatoria Da Ginone was worth a try. What an under-statement!! This is an exceptional restaurant. The atmosphere, ambience, level of service and quality of food are beyond compare. We were made very welcome by the head waiter, although we hadn't booked, found a table and provided with a level of service beyond our expectations. After a few minutes we realised just how lucky we had been as every table was filled with pre-booked customers. Our choice of ravioli starter with beef in red wine sauce accompanied with fried potatoes, spinach and beans was excellent with the best house wine imaginable. This was followed by deserts which included creme brûlée, chocolate tarte and black current pie - all delicious. We were treated to a liqueur by the restaurant and then a complimentary bottle of wine. You could not ask for more. This restaurant was so good that we immediately booked for the remaining two nights of our Florence stay and know that we will not be disappointed.

“Good but not nice!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 21, 2012

Went there because of Trip Advisor review. Food was good but bread was dry and stale. I did not get my change back. I think it was unfortunate because they should let me decide if I would give them more tip or not. This is bad taste. So my advise is give them the exact amount, for the cover charge is added already! In my situation 25% was tip. There are many restaurants in Florence, so go explore!

“An Italian Feast! A Must for Food Lovers!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 19, 2012 via mobile

We had a special and wonderful experience in Ginone. It wasn't just a meal, it was an Italian feast.
We booked in advance (as you should too) and when we arrived we were greeted with a big smile.
For an appetizer we ordered the liver pate crostini. It was superb.
Then we had the tortellini al ragu, and the pici spaghetti. These were excellent original courses, and unlike anything we had before.
We continued with the beef stew in red wine which was so tender and savoury.
Finally we had the chocolate cake, excellent as well. And ofcourse, espresso.
On our way out, we were given a small bottle of wine as a souvenir.
We had a wonderful evening and we recommend Ginone to anyone who visits Florence and loves good food.

“Fantastico”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 15, 2012 via mobile

Great value, attentive service. The best meal of the trip. Make sure you book or get there when it opens. And it wasnt too expensive- around 60 to 70 euros for both of us.

“Food heaven!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 15, 2012

After reading the wonderful Trip Advisor reviews (this site has never steered us wrong!), we decided to cross Ponte alla Carraia and head straight for the gem of Trattoria alla Ginone. That it was filled with locals told us immediately we had hit a good place. Turned out it was not just good - it was phenomenal.

We had 4 dishes: Parpadelle alla Chinghiale (wild boar), a Florence specialty, Risotto with Truffle Sauce & Mushrooms (both dishes were divine and priced at 9/10 euro), a succulent Swordfish with octopus, mussels and clams and a simple ravioli al ragu. For dessert, we tried the chocolate cake and the blackberry tort, both delicious, in serving sizes that were not huge, but just the right size.

We were all in food heaven and will return - often! We guarantee you will be glad you made the effort. The prices are affordable, the atmosphere warm and on the way back before crossing the bridge, you'll run right into one of the best gelaterias around - but that's for another review! ;)
