After researching on Trip Advisor, we arrived in Florence with a small list of likely restaurants, this being one of them. Trattoria da Ginone is situated roughly 10 minutes walk from the Ponte Vecchio in a street which although it couldn't in all honesty be described as Florence's prettiest, doesn't feel unsafe in any way. Since we were in the vicinity one afternoon we took the opportunity to book a table for two for 8.30 that evening. When the time came we somehow managed to arrive half an hour early (which the staff were kind enough not to mention), had a friendly greeting & were shown straight to a table. The restaurant was quiet at this time but an hour later was more or less full so booking is recommended. We didn't really need to see the menu as we had already decided on Bistecca Florentina. Florence's legendary T bone steak usually comes as a shared dish for two at a monsterous 3lb in weight & ours arrived with a side of roasted potatoes. It was quite an experience. Excellent flavour & in spite of its size, it seemed to disappear really quickly! We both really enjoyed ours although unsurprisingly we had no room for desert. One word of warning - Bistecca Florentina is served rare & I've seen reviews where people asked for medium rare or well done & thought their steak was still rare for their taste. This wasn't a problem for us - we loved it. This restaurant is reasonably located, serves delicious food & has a good atmosphere with friendly staff - a nice touch was the gift of a small bottle of red wine when we left. It wasn't expensive either - we had a litre of house red with our meal which was rather good & very reasonably priced - from our experience, house red in Florence is usually cheap & very good. I have no hesitation in giving this restaurant a good recommendation.
