“Very good for Italian standards!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 19, 2013

Great location within 20 minutes by foot from city centre and a shuttle running mornings and evenings with a large pause during lunchtime. Small pool in the garden, with low and deep-end, nice enough for kids to play in and refresh from the city heat. Nice breakfast place outside facing the garden, however it is on a first come first served basis and tables are quickly filled, after which it's breakfast inside. Nice large buffet. Main problem with this 5 star hotel was the smokers allowed to smoke in the tiny garden around the pool, which is a real shame as there's no where to escape when kids are swimming. Same thing for breakfast in the morning, when you can smell cigars and cigarettes from people already sitting at tables around the garden while you're enjoying your breakfast. If you stay there, try to get the newly renovated rooms which were very nice and modern. We were there for a week and one night the fire alarm system went on and off every 20 minutes for 3 hours....And no one could stop it. No apologies from management the next day either, until we got so upset that we finally got compensated for that night with apologies. This hotel is not average, but it's unfortunately not fantastic either. It's very good for italian standards and very conveniently located in a city where hotels are outrageously expensive in August, just good from a 5-star hotel international perspective. One of the concierges was extremely friendly and helpful and also spoke a bit of French.

Room Tip: The newly renovated rooms facing the courtyard are fantastic!

Used by many tour operators including ours, the hotel is clean but worn. They turn A/C off after summer is declared over, REGARDLESS OF THE TEMPERATURE. We slept with windows opened wide (mosquitoes let in) just to survive the heat, Room didn't cool until about daybreak.

Bkfst was good except scrambled eggs were watery. Location is on the outer edges of the city and is a LONG WALK to anywhere worth seeing. Svc was very warm and accomodating.

Room Tip: Make sure that they will have A/C during your stay.

Very expensive hotel with a good location near the city center without a lot of traffic. The hotel is ranked among the "best hotels in the world". When one night costs 220 Euro then you get really surprised when they charge you extra for the WI-FI and 9 Euro for a small can of beer in the minibar. The service was excellent except for the concierges. Some of them were really "rough". The dubbelbed was gliding and created a gap, aircondition did not work efficient so I was forced to open the window which resulted in moscitoattacks every night. The remotecontrol for the Tv did not work properly therefor I asked the concierge for help, without success. The TV screen was to small for the large room so you could not see properly from the bed. The toalettseat was shaky and the flusher too. Concluding: this hotel should either step upp one or two steps or reduce the price. One is dissatsfied when you pay so much money and at the same time feel: this is a ripp-off.

We had four nights at this hotel and can't praise it highly enough. The room was excellent, the bathroom huge, the service impeccable. Having said all that it is not cheap, in fact it is eye wateringly expensive (circa £25 for two gin and tonics) but if you want to splash out this is a good hotel to do it in.

The building is impressive, the bar and grounds very attractive and there is an open air pool for the warmer months.

Breakfast was perhaps a little disappointing in that it was fairly unimaginative, nothing wrong with it, just a bit ordinary.

Located 10/15 minutes walk to the centre of Florence (although there is a car service too).

There are a number of good local restaurants within easy walking of the hotel.

The station is about a 10 euro taxi ride.

We just stayed at this Great Hotel and cant say enough about how nice it was. Everyone was extremely helpful and the room was perfect.. They offer a car to drive you to where you are going but not the airport or train... but what a perk and the driver was so nice. We walked most of the time but was nice if we were to tired. Food was good and breakfast buffett was wonderful..Lots to choose from.. The only downfall was the internet. Wifi they give you a coupon for 1 hour free, we got a free 10 hours and if you did not log off it was toast fast. Most hotels just let you on and you dont have to continue to log in and out. But saying that was the only downfall is not bad.. We traveled with a 10 yr old and in our room they added a mattress to the daybed for her and she was comfortable.
true Italin comfort..

My wife and I stayed at the Grand Hotel during our short visit to Florence. We only wished we would have booked more nights in Florence because of this property and the city. The hotel is indeed Grand. Great lobby and public areas. The bar is quaint and relaxing with a beautiful restaurant. The breakfasts were outstanding. A great selection of pastries, fresh fruit, eggs, meats, salmon and much more. We had dinner one night in the dining room and it was one of the best dinners we had on our two weeks in Italy. The service was gracious and timely and the food presentation and flavors were great. I suggest you look at this property if you are staying in Florence. Close to train station and all the historical sites. We walked everywhere and this location is quite. Great door people also.

Visited during a congress. It is situated in an area near the main attractions of Florence. Staff were very polite and helpful .Breakfast was excellent in my view many fresh fruits good variety of sweets. The room we stayed was not too spacious and the window facing the back yard would not open which was a minus. The garden and the pool were wonderful the bar and the decoration were classy. I would definitely recommend it in a better room than the one I stayed
