I didn't queue and instead paid for a tour from a local guide at a much greater price (€35) but honestly, her insight and passion made it so much more worthwhile. My tour guide did art history in university and explained that as there are 1800 pieces in the museum she had selected instead pieces which wove into a story - what a story. She combined tales of the Medici with the development of painting techniques into a truly memorable tour. The pieces in this museum are amazing and visiting here was definitely one of my highlights.

If you care for European and particularly an Italian art of the last 600 years, this may be the best museum in the world to enjoy it. The richness, the stunning array of unending masterpieces is truly mind bogging. Do not try to absorb it in one day, you will become numb to the beauty after 4-5 hours of looking. Best is to spread it over at least two days to be able to savor this amazing collection. Avoid the cafeteria, it is ridiculously expensive also in Firenze prices, and make sure to book your ticket on the internet sufficiently long in advance. The only down side of the Uffizi is the number of visitors, making viewing the most famous painting a bit of a hassle. But still enormously worthwhile.

I highly recommend a tour of the gallery to learn about the history of art and how the renaissance changed art as we know it. Also, beats standing in line for 2 hours in the heart!

A must see in Florence if you like art and especially work from Boticelli.
You will find Boticelli's most famous works (e.g. his Venus)

The museum is however victim of its sucess as you have to queue for quite a long time and you might be allocated an entrance time in the afternoon even if you turn up there in the morning.

In order to avoid wasting time queuing or simply be able to visit because you do not have much time in Florence, there are 2 options:
- book your ticket in advance and you will be given an allocated time to enter
- get the Firenze card that gives you priority access to all museums in Florence (except for the duomo). That card costs 72 euros for 72h. It is quite worth it if you intend to visit many museums and if you want to avoid queuing.

Regardless of whether your an art buff or not, you won't fail to be wowed by this museum. We were pleased to see Leonardo Da Vinci's work as well as the films that explained the restoration process. Many people speak of queues so we went to the ticket office the day before our visit to the gallery and paid a bit extra to get a timed ticket. We were in within 10 minutes.
