Even if you're not into art, this is one of the planet's most impressive collections. From ancient sculpture to the very best of the Renaissance - it's all here. Miss this and you may always regret it.

In November there were no queues ! The crowds, too, had gone. Often we had these masterpieces to ourselves.

After a couple of hours, of course, overload sets in. Revive yourself with coffee on the balcony and set off again.

The Post-Renaissance galleries are somewhat the lesser, or perhaps it's just that the others are so wonderful ? There are still great paintings there.

For some reason, the seventeenth century artists are in a newer gallery tucked away off the exit stairs, and easy to overlook. That would be a tragedy - you would miss one of Rembandt's finest self portraits and Caravaggio's famous Bacchus.
These two alone are worth the 10 euro entrance fee.

“THE must see in Florence”
Reviewed December 3, 2012

MAKE SURE YOU GET TICKETS IN ADVANCE !!! Otherwise you will spend hours waiting in the queue. The museum is certainly worth waiting in line, but why do it if you can get the tickets with the hour of your choice for the visit over the Internet. One of the premier museums of the world just about summs it.

This is such an extensive venue of interesting and beautiful stuff that after 2 hours I found myself skipping too quickly past exhibits that would otherwise have occupied me for longer. My brain simply shut down! Some call it Stendahl's Syndrome; a friend of mine calls it "boggle" - hence the title!
