This is such an extensive venue of interesting and beautiful stuff that after 2 hours I found myself skipping too quickly past exhibits that would otherwise have occupied me for longer. My brain simply shut down! Some call it Stendahl's Syndrome; a friend of mine calls it "boggle" - hence the title!

Uffizi is in the middle of an expansion. The already large art gallery in Florence is also getting a face lift, and it is best to visit it as almost anywhere you go in Italy with an organized tour and a contracted high quality guide that could help immerse you into the art of the Renaissance. Here you can sit and admire to your heart's content paintings by Botticelli, some by Caravaggio, and though the museum book store has illustrated books with all the important works, they do not make up for seeing them close up in person. A must see for art lovers.

the museum was very big. the long queue in the entrance and long walk in the gallery = so worth it. it is recommended to have a guided tour or buy the guidebook so that you can plan how you'll go around this huge gallery :) don't leave florence without visiting uffizi gallery

The Uffizi is a must for anyone visiting Firenze. Advisable to go in May or September (i.e. outside main tourist season) to avoid long queues. Caravaggio, Botticelli, and more all in one visit. Fantastic views of the Ponte Vecchio as well.
