“Best, and most inexpensive, lunch in Florence at this English-speaking mom-and-pop gem”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 5, 2014 via mobile

I've spent a couple of weeks in Florence and by far this is my favorite place to eat lunch. The owner/operators are delightful (and they speak English), and the food, especially the sandwiches, is the best I've had. The bread is homemade and amazing, and everything is fresh. Eat here, you won't be disappointed. It's cheap, too, you can have a filling meal with a drink for 5 euro. Where else can you find this value in historic Florence?

“tasty Florentine food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 3, 2014

Although it's a small place, it had very homemade dishes. I really liked there food. The staff speak little English but i managed to communicate with them.

“Great place for a snack or sandwich”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 2, 2014 via mobile

I walked into this place looking for something small (while waiting for my girlfriend's appetite to grow :) ).
The smell alone was enough to make me stay and I was happy I did.

A very cute place with good home made cooking.

“Amazing place”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 1, 2014 via mobile

Conveniently located near Piazzo Vecchi this little place has an amazing home made food you can have any time of the day. The owner - a wonderful Tuscan lady with a good sense of humor, who speaks good English and other languages - made our lunch time exceptionally pleasant and fun, that we came back next day as well. Have to mention that the prices are very reasonable for the great food. Definitely would recommend this place to everyone.

“The Real Deal”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 20, 2014

Our travel guide said that central Florence was full of restaurants which served mediocre food at inflated prices, always a risk in city centres which are saturated with unsuspecting and often naïve tourists. Il Cernacchino restores your faith. This is a small, fast-food type establishment which serves robust, traditional Tuscan food at incredible prices. They offer a list of 13 'sandwiches' (4 euros) in local bread stuffed full of fresh regional meats, cheeses, pickles and relishes. For an appetiser or a quick snack, you can choose from a varied range of crostini on the counter at just 1 euro per piece. If you are in need of something more substantial, there are also 2 thick, tasty, pungent Tuscan soups and a range of about 6 hot local dishes (including pasta) to choose from. A huge joint of roast pork is thinly sliced and can be added to any order. There are 4 mouth-watering deserts to choose from at 3 euros per slice; the apple pie was the best I have ever tasted. Espresso or Americano is available for just 1 euro, smooth local wine from the barrel is 2 euros for a large glass and the beer was the cheapest we found in the whole of Florence.

The two sisters are friendly and willing to talk you through all the delights that are on offer. However, this is a small establishment offering only counter service (no waiting on tables) and turn-over is high. It is not a place to sit for hours, but it is a place where you can relish excellent traditional fare without hammering your wallet. Excellent food, outstanding value.
