“Beauty with pretese”

The San Lorenzo Church has so many interesting aspsects to it. There are the Capelle Medicee where the important memebers of the Medice family are buried. There is the great library Laurenziana designed by Michelangelo which I find so interesting because it demostrates the way these libraries used to fuction, as well as being quite beautiful. There is also the simple interior loggia where one can enter, without any ticket, and rest in a beautiful space. I do this sometimes. It is uplifting.

“Impressive”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 29, 2012

Although in Florence you are charged to visit the churches, this one is well worth the money. Very large in scale and some impressive paintings inside. You have to visit.

“If You Have Time to Spare, Visit”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 13, 2012

The Church of San Lorenzo is separate from the Medici Tombs, but shares the same building, so it's easy to pay for and drop into this church. Surprisingly, no photographs are allowed, so you'll be taking away memories and not pictures. This church is not included in your visit to the Medici Tombs.
Lesser known works by Donatello (pulpits, one of which was being restored, and bronze doors on the sacristy), Filippo Lippi (an Annunciation), and Brunelleschi (the old sacristy) are here.
For Donatello fans you can visit the cloister then head downstairs to see his grave. The reliquaries are not worth visiting, and ask beforehand if the Laurentian Library is open if that is important to your decision whether to visit or not. It was closed when we were there in early September.

“Nice”

Like all the churches, you start to get confused as to where you've been, but I recall this being lovely.

“Beautiful on the inside”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 21, 2012

This is the first catherdal in Florence. It is much more beautiful inside than the main duomo. Must see if you are in Florence. Much better than the duomo.
