We arrived via cruise ship (at the port in Livorno) in June and arranged a day with Guido for my husband and I to do a wine tasting experience in Tuscany. He was very prompt and thorough in all of our email communications and his English was fantastic! We had been to the area before and wanted to experience the Tuscan wine country this time - no big tour bus from the cruise line and no tourist attraction stops. Guido was a perfect fit for us. He emailed different itinerary 'options' for our day together and, ultimately, we trusted his knowledge and expertise and had him arrange the day for us...we did 2 wine tasting visits and stopped for a lovely lunch in the Tuscan countryside. Our first wine tasting was at the University of Florence's Villa Montepaldi (their wine-making/teaching location in the Chianti Classico area). Guido was our personal tour guide & sommelier there, showing us their operations and then sitting us down for a 6 wine-flight personalized tasting in one of their conference rooms. The tasting itself was about an hour and Guido created an experience that was fun, informative and we learned so much from him about wine, grapes, the art of how to taste properly and how to truly understand all the different Italian wines. It wasn't stuffy or school-like at all. It was simply amazing! After a stop for lunch, we drove to the Chianti area and tasted at Pietro Beconcini - this was a small family one-room winery, very personalized again (no tourists here!), we tasted 6 very good wines. Our day altogether was 8 hours and it was truly one the highlight's of our cruise vacation in the region. We highly recommend Guido without any reservation. You'll be so glad you did!

Recently we 5 60ish women went on a wine tour in Tuscany with Guido; it was one of the highlights of our trip! He showed us HIS Tuscany, including his town, his favorite winery, and a wonderful restaurant where he had pre-ordered the meal for us to ensure an authentic Tuscan experience. Guido was very knowledgeable about the wines we were tasting (after all, he is a master sommelier!) but was also re-assuring to some of the "novice" wine tasters that they might taste something different in the wine; that just because he thought it was a good wine, doesn;t mean we would like it. It is all individual, but he gave us the tools to better appreciate what we were tasting. What a treat to spend a day with someone so passionate about his home and his interests.

Five of us went on a tour of the Chianti Classico region with Guido while on a stop in the area on a cruise. Guido was a perfect host and guide for our day in Tuscany. We had a brief stop in Florence to see some of the highlights and then we were on our way into the countryside. Guido gave us a tour of the area and explained the history of wine making in the region. The sights were fantastic. We had a wonderful lunch and then we were off to visit the University of Florence Winery. Guido gave us a tour of the winery and explained how the wines are made and then we were treated to a wine tasting of some of their wines. If you like wine, Guido is your guy. His enthusiasm and knowledge of wine is obvious. All in all, a fantastic day.

I arranged a private wine tour with Guido for my friend and I who were spending a few days in Tuscany. As it was my friend's `big' birthday, I arranged the tour as a surprise for her and Guido could not have been more helpful in responding to my emails and helping to arrange a little birthday cake surprise for her at our lunch restaurant. We had a brilliant day with Guido - his passion for wine and the Tuscany region was infectious and his choice of lunch restaurant (& lunch wine), absolutely delicious. I would definitely recommend booking early - a really informative and enjoyable day out is guaranteed.

Six of us – who were so fortunate to be enjoying the fantastic entertainment of the Garrison Keillor Prairie Home Companion cruise in August – spent a day with Guido seeing rural Tuscany and enjoying some good wine. It was an incredible experience – one of the highlights of a cruise full of highlights!

Guido is a sommelier and knows everything about wine. So, naturally, the two wineries we visited were excellent and informative. But Guido also grew up in the Chianti region and it was like having an Italian cousin personally driving us around for the day, showing us all the best the area has to offer with great enthusiasm. (His command of English, even its crazy idioms and humor, is impressive.)

He picked us up at our ship in Livorno in a very comfortable, air-conditioned van and we headed straight for the tower-spiked hill town of San Gimignano so we could visit there BEFORE all the tour buses arrived. He dropped us off at the town gate to spend 90 minutes or so on our own enjoying the medieval town before meeting him back at the van.

He also dropped us off at a great little cafe in another small town for lunch, where we appeared to be the only tourists. We enjoyed some great food and wine on an outdoor terrace with beautiful views of the countryside. The local family at the next table was celebrating a birthday and it was fun watching their two kids enjoying it all.

All the rave reviews you'll read about Guido's Tours are absolutely true. The six of us shared the cost of the tour, all established ahead of time, and for the 9 hours we spent with him, it was probably less than half of what a typical all-day cruise-line shore excursion would have cost each of us -- without the usual long stops for shopping, which not everyone enjoys :)

The friend in our group, who arranged the tour for us, said Guido replied to her advance emails promptly and answered any questions with a lot of good information. Go to his website and book Guido early so you don't miss out on this very personal and fun way to experience Tuscany. He not only is an outstanding, very professional guide and a great value -- he obviously loves Tuscany and it rubs off effortlessly on his clients.
