Our dinner here was the best of our two week holiday to Europe which included multiple places in England, a stop in Paris, and multiple places in Italy. From the moment we entered we were treated like family. The staff was great, some only spoke a little English and one girl, which I sadly can't remember her name right now, we found out during the course of the evening was actually from Texas and married to one of the family members that owns the restaurant.
As we wanted to try a number of things on the menu we shared everything. We started with the Caprese Di Bufala (Caprese made with Buffalo Mozzarella). We then went off the menu and went with two of the daily specials. For our second course we had a homemade Pappardelle pasta with a ragu made with Rabbit mince. For the meat course we shared another dish from the specials menu which was a Firenze steak and rosemary potatoes. We also shared a bottle of wine, a Chianti reserva, and a bottle of water.
We then finished the meal with dessert, after reading reviews on how good the panna cotta alla "massimo" was my husband had to get it and was not disappointed. I had the the tazza Di fragole al mascarpone (Strawberries and cream) which was refreshing and delicious. We also has an espresso and cappuccino respectively and these were among the best of our trip as well.
As we were finishing our meal we got to talking with the nice girl from Texas. She told us about her life and how she came to Florence, how she was married to one of the family that owned the restaurant and how it was 3rd generation family owned. She also spent time talking about the pride the family took in using the best ingredients as well. With all this she also took time to provide great help about the city and where to buy wine as well as the general practises in Italy as far as tipping and cover charges for restaurants. She also stayed well past the closing time of the restaurant to chat with and offered us some after dinner drinks (grappa and some good red coloured drink) which she ended up providing to us at no charge along with our coffees, we told her that wasn't necessary, but she insisted.
Total cost for the meal was €72 ($80) and was money well spent. Like I said before it was the best meal of our trip and we will certainly be coming back the next time we are in Florence.
