“Hospitality reigned supreme”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 7, 2012

We stayed at Al Duomo for 2 nights in April 2012. We got off to a bad start - we came from Nice via train and arrived 3-4 hours later than expected, dripping wet on the doorstep of Al Duomo, and after ringing the bell countless times, realized noone was home! We called Guido and Maria and they rushed over and apologized profusely while telling us that we didn't, in fact, have a booking with them. Apparently husband dearest had not responded to their last email hence they had let their room go. But being the amazing hosts they were, they told us they would not turn us away under any circumstances. They gave us a room for the night and moved us to an apartment the following day with the downside of no breakfast.

The room in their main B&B was lovely - large and clean, with a small but tidy bathroom and an excellent view of the Duomo. The apartment was a bit of an issue though - it was closer to Al Duomo but the building had no elevator so my husband had to drag the suitcases up 2 very steep flights of stairs. Plus the apartment was a two-bedroom unit with a shared bathroom and kitchen. However, we never came across the other couple (wonder if there was someone there even).

I would highly recommend the apartment for people who wish to stay for longer periods - there was a large lounge area and attached kitchen and there are plenty of eateries as well as the weekend market when you step out.

Room Tip: Ask for the room facing the Duomo - phenomenal view because of the proximity

We stayed at this lovely little B and B while visiting family in Florence. Weren't sure what to expect but most of the reviews were positive so we had high hopes and were not disappointed. Guido and Mariagioconda were extremely welcoming hosts and could not have been more helpful. The room was spacious and comfortable - perhaps not luxurious but excellent value. Breakfast was delicious, especially Guido's coffee. Maria booked us a wonderful trip to the Cinque Terre which was a highlight of our stay. I'm pleased to see that most of the reviews on here are positive - I can only assume the negative reviewers were having a bad day. To Guido and Maria we would like to say Tante grazie per la vostra gentilezza, speriamo di rivedervi fra poco.

I nice B&B for solo traveler. Maria and Guido were great hosts. The breakfasts were very good. They both were very helpful and informative when I had concerns. You can easily get around to all the top sites on foot from this location if you are moderately fit.

Room Tip: My room was okay for me as I only used it to sleep in. There was a TV and you share a bathroom with...

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our 6 day stay at the B&B Al Duomo, and would book it again without hesitation for any return visit. Guido and Mariagiaconda made us feel very welcome, and went out of their way to provide us with advice and assistance. The room itself was very spacious and well appointed, with room to spread out and be comfortable. The view from our window was a true spectacle, with excitement and activity at nearly all hours, though closing the windows yielded quiet and peace when desired. Guido's breakfast was satisfying, especially the cappucino! I'm not sure what he does to produce such a delicious eye-opener, but the combination of coffee master and time-tested machine makes a cup of coffee better than any other we had on our trip. To say the location was ideal is an understatement...mere moments from all the sites, great restaurants, the market and everything else Florence has to offer. Mariagiaconda's English was very good, and her assistance in arranging a tour to Cinque Terre was invaluable. On our last day, she was kind enough to show us the view of Florence from the roof of the building, a perfect way to cap of a memorable visit to a remarkable city. This property provides great value, and made an excellent choice of venue for our stay.

My son and I stayed at the Al Dumo for the ending of our trip to Europe.
We were warmly greeted by Maria & Guido, even when we had arrived later than expected. The lift worked fine, always taking us to the 4th floor. Due to all of the wonderful food, we opted to use the stairs. The AC in the room worked fine, but I don't care for AC, so we left the windows open for fresh air. There were no flies or bugs, as other reviews stated.
Guido was there and waiting every morning to treat us to our breakfast and coffee. He also cleaned up in our room for us.
Maria gave great travel suggestions and was never rude.

Room Tip: Just like every B&B, the rooms are for sleeping. Why would you want to hang around your room whe...

I visited Florence on my own and I decided to go to Alduomo . The location is superb, just a walking minute or less away from the Cathedral , and less than 10 minutoes from the train station. The flat and the service is amazing for a B&B. Friendly atmosphere, and spotless service, they take care of everything. It was a lovely experience and I will recommend it to everyone who wants to feel at home in the heart of a beautiful city like Florence.
