Description: The "Grotta Guelfa" is a necessary stop for those who are passionate about good food and love the most authentic dishes. They are dishes that remain tied to tradition and their territory but, at the same time, do not turn away from new tastes. Patrons can have their dinner in the cosy and small lounge or in the wide porch with air conditioning and lively decoration, accessible year-round. The restaurant is located near the old "Palagio dei Capitani di Parte Guelfa". From this corner of Florence, famous for its typical medieval structure, it is possible to start an amazing tour among the artistic beauties of the city.

“Cheery waiter and top value”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 10, 2013 via mobile

A great introduction to Tuscany and Florence. Good home cooking and excellent value ( we had the patrons choice set menu) . Came out surprised with the bill, and very contented with the food and atmosphere. Loved the singing waiter and his banter.

“Good restaurant, but not the excellent”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 14, 2013

We relied on responses on this site, for a choice of a place to eat the Florentine beefsteak. As a whole it was prepared not bad, but not perfectly and, unfortunately, was already cooled down. Quite expensive wine list. Other food was tasty, but not outstanding.

“Sorry we discovered this place so late in our trip”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 30, 2012

Our last night in Florence did not disappoint. This was by far one of our best meals in Florence. Not having dined here before we stumbled on this place close to dinner. When we walked by, the outdoor terrace was bustling. We took a look at the extensive menu and immediately were seated. Great views outside of the lovely piazza, with friendly and attentive staff. A mix of patrons from locals and tourists. As we were looking at the menu, we were in awe as the server would walk by us with food.

To start, we had the Crostini Misto – A lovely mix of local favorites. One crostini with porcini, bruschetta , and white beans (my favorite). Just enough to get started. This was accompanied by a Negroni for my husband and a Spritz for me. It was so hard to decide on what to have as everything looked good. My husband had the bistecca for one, along with some Chianti riserva. I had the veal Scaloppine with porcini mushrooms served with white beans. The scaloppini was cooked to perfection in a light tomato with sage sauce. To finish, we had panna cotte drizzled with chocolate sauce. Since it was our last night, we also had grappa and limoncello.

Great price point, 86 Euros for everything. All fantastic and a must.

“Great Price Performer”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 8, 2012

My wife and another couple happened upon La Grotta Guelfa when looking for a restaurant that was open before 8 PM. We were lucky enough to find this one just a short walk off Piazza della Repubblica. The menu was quite extensive with both prix fixe and ala carte selections at very reasonable prices. The 4-course prix fixe is a real bargain; it include both wine and coffee, and is priced at 21 Euros. The service was OK and not intrusive. I would certainly recommend it for a casual dinner with friends and families alike.
