“Best hotel in Florence”
Reviewed July 24, 2010

B&B Residenza dell Signoria ticked all the boxes for us. To start with Andrea was THE most helpful person in Florence. The location is second to none - within spitting distance of the Accadamia, Uffizi, and the shopping! There is even a lift to get you up and down. The room facilities were A1 as was the cleanliness. OK the view is non existent but location more than makes up for this. I would put this experience at the top of our list during our 4 weeks in Italy. Thankyou Andrea.

The room was lovely and the kitchen with coffee machine (for 50 centimes) and fridge was useful. Service is good. Location is wonderful. Direction given to the hotel by car were ridiculous. You can't make it by car. Best thing to do is park at Garage Sole or some other.

Thanks for your wonderful review.
I am sorry to see that you couldn't find your way to this place following the detailed, road by road directions given on our webpages. I wonder what happened in your case because these direction are 100% accurate and periodically checked infact they always worked well and easy for hundreds of guests. Moreover with the reservation confirmation comes the telephone number of the partner-garage, open until late night, that offers live help in emergency cases.

If what you say is a way to warn about driving in Florence, that can be very hard (like in any italian historical centre afterall), i totally agree with you and i am not surprised if you have encountered some difficulties but please do not attribute the responsability to our directions otherwise other guests may get confused or worried about it with no reason.

The best recommendation that i can give to everybody is to leave the car at home and use public transports instead, as we are located in the middle of the centre and you will never want to use the car during your stay as everything is within 10 minutes walking range.
Thank for staying here, i hope to see you again soon.

Amazing location; COuldn't be better...But get your own directions/map as getting on the right bus from the station is a nightmare! Though you could walk it if you're traveling light...
The room was by far the largest given italian standards (we had a juniopr suite thanks to a free upgrade).
This is bag on Piazza signoria - which is where the ufizi museums are...will update photo's of the room soon enuf

We stayed here for one night, but wish we had booked a longer stay. What they lack in reception staff they make up for in location.
A few things - there is no breakfast with this B&B, not really sure why it's not listed as a hotel. There is also no real reception desk. There is typically someone around between 9 and noon to do check in and check out, and that's it. There is a phone number, but we didn't have a phone, so you're almost out of luck if there is an issue. That said - a lovely lovely hotel. We really didn't need or want a reception desk, and the location of this place is AWESOME. Two blocks from just about everything. Rooms were nicely made up, free wifi, cute little TV. Would definitely stay again.

Many thanks for your nice review that is complete and accurate bytheway i take the opportunity to punctualize some of the aspects mentioned in it.

The limited reception time should not be considered a lack of service as it is the main reason that makes our rates so reasonable for the location. Why pay somebody to stay at the desk for no reasons and let the rates hardly increase for this? Bytheway we know perfectly that everybody has its own needings and preferences so our recommendation to who looks for hotel services is simply to search for an hotel... even if they will not find the same low rates for a room similar to ours in the nearby, it is just math.

The staff phone number is active 24/7 and in each room there is a telephone with external direct access to let you call even if you don't have your own phone or simply if you don't want to use it (the call from the room to the staff phone number is always free). In case of issues, just call, as you would make in any hotel, we will be glad to answer and to come quickly if needed.

The breakfast (not included to let you freely decide if you want it or not) is available in agreement with 3 different cafes in the nearby, the closest is just downstairs and the most far is within 200 meters range. It is our choice to do not serve breakfast directly as we think that everyone should make his job and no others. We make people sleep well and the selected cafes make people happy with top quality breakfasts. Doing so we can focalize on room quality, offering top class, extra clean rooms provided with all comforts, and let you taste the best italian breakfasts in historical, elegant cafes of Florence at very special rates reserved to our guests only.

All the above informations should now answer at why this place is not listed as a hotel but as a B&B. Thanks for your stay with us, hope to see you again soon.

We have just returned from a tour of Tuscany taking in Pisa, San Gimignano, Siena, Florence and Lucca. The Residenza della Signoria was one of the two top accommodations that we stayed in. luxurious, decent high ceiling rooms, big double beds, great showers & bathrooms, large soft white towels, aircon and a great location, quiet even though most of the rooms look out onto one of the busiest semi pedestrian streets in Florence.
Although the accommodation is room only they have an arrangement with the cafe next door for breakfast at a great rate of 3.5 eu covering a croissant, two small rolls, butter, jam and a coffee of choice. Next door to the cafe is a good restaurant, we ate there both nights as we were so impressed the first night.
But ! we were driving around in an Opel Zafira, a big beast to drive around the confines of Florence, especially when they change some of the one way system and our sat nav hadn't got the latest info! after about 30 minutes of fruitlessgyrations including going to the station and trying to follow instructions we gave up and i dropped the other 3 off at a taxi rank and drove outside the city to where I knew I could park for free ( the Residenza has an arrangement with a garage in town for parking but with a Zafira it was going to cost 35 eu per 24 hours). in the end two Taxis were cheaper than the parking charge.
We pre booked tickets for the Uffizi, well worth while as we didn't have to queue.
Would we go again - you bet

Location is of the utmost importance in Florence because it is a walking city. The location of Residenza della Signoria is perfect! It is really in the center of the city just a few blocks from the Duomo and the square with the fake Michaelangelo David stutue. The room was large and very nice, especially considering the price. Considering, price, quality and location, Residenza della Signoria is a fantastic place to stay.

The only potential negative is that this is not a full service hotel with concierge, etc. The manager is only on site from 9am to noon every day. If you are an experienced traveler who is self sufficient and doesn't need hand holding, this is the perfect place to stay! However, if you want a concierge available to help you plan and organize your stay, this is not a good option for you.

We stayed here for 2 nights in April with friends. It was very easy to find and walk to from the train station and was in the best location for Florence - between the Duomo and the Uffizi and just off the main shopping street.
The rooms were big, quiet, comfortable and clean. They have free wifi, BBC news and big bathrooms with an excellent shower. They don't serve breakfast but there are kitchen facilities and the hotel is surrounded by bars who serve delicious coffee and pastries. But for 99 euros a night we didn't mind that they didn't serve breakfast.
This is the place to stay in Florence!
