My husband and I stayed here for a few nights while on our honeymoon and we absolutely loved it! The owner was so helpful and the location was just right for sightseeing in Florence!

My wife and I enthusiastically recommend this place to anyone visiting Florence whose needs do not run to room service and other staff-intensive amenities found in large hotels. This is a small, very well run B&B that is long on convenience, comfort, charm, and functionality. Our host, Stefano Arnetoli, made us feel more than welcome with his kindness, his competence, and his friendly enthusiasm. We completely enjoyed every aspect of our our stay, and we will certainly stay at this gem the next time we visit Florence.

We are in our early 70s and we stayed at the Residenza della Signoria for 10 days in mid May of 2012. We visited Florence many times in the 1980s, but this was our first time back to Florence in about 25 years, and our first time ever at this place.

Here are some details...

We flew into the Florence airport (FLR), which is only a brief taxi ride away from the historic center. Although the historic center of Florence excludes private cars, taxis can go on most side streets (often by very roundabout routes), and we were dropped off in front of the Residenza's entrance with no problem.

The Residenza is on the 3rd floor of a large old building. The elevator/lift held 2 people and 2 large (29") suitcases, in a tight fit. Our excellent room was in back, not facing the street and not near the front desk. It had a nice view of the Duomo from the bathroom window. The room was very quiet, with only minor outside noise when the window was open, and no noise at all with the window closed.

The room was large for Florence, with a king-size bed that while firmer than we both prefer, was OK on all counts. Furnishings were exactly as shown in photos, and all the furniture was attractive, functional, clean, and in excellent condition. The wardrobe had plenty of hangers and shelves. The desk in the room contained a safe that easily held our 10" tablet (elsewhere in Italy, the hotel safes were much smaller).

The attached bathroom was fitted out just as shown in photos - sink, toilet, bidet, shower enclosure, and hair dryer, all new, gleaming, and functional. The water pressure in Florence is not high, and the shower enclosure was small, but there was no problem taking showers - the enclosure and fixtures worked well, and there was no water on the floor after a shower. The soap was in liquid soap dispensers. A standard 220V electrical outlet near the sink allowed us to use our 110/220V travel Waterpik (using a 2 pin adapter for the US-style plug). Towels were the surprisingly effective thin waffle pattern towels that now appears to be standard in Italian hotels and elsewhere in Europe. The bath towels were huge. Towels were changed every 3 days, which worked well for us.

A 220V electrical outlet was located by the room's desk, and we used a single plug adapter and a US power strip to charge our phone, tablet, and cameras, all of which had US plugs and were 110/220V capable. Electrical sockets were Italian 3 pin grounded sockets, our adapter was 2 pin ungrounded, and our chargers worked fine with this simple rig.

We did not use the kitchen facilities. Staff cleaning services were always effective and unobtrusive - the place is spotless. Laundry services for our cotton and polyester clothes were fine, with nothing damaged or lost. Although the front desk (really the front room) is normally attended only in the morning, we often saw staff members there considerably after the official hours. Communication was never a problem as Sig. Arnetoli has very good English, very much better than our minimal Italian.

The location is superb - diagonally across from Orsanmichele, approximately 2/3 of the way from the Duomo to the Palazzo Vecchio, and is close to the Piazza della Repubblica, Dante's House, and the Bargello, just to name a few nearby major sights. Literally next door is the Cantinetta dei Verazzano, a bakery/restaurant that is deservedly on every travel book's restaurant list, and is not to be missed. There are many other restaurants, bars, banks, and shops within a short walk. I can't imagine a better location in Florence.

A great find on all counts.

The Residenza is in the perfect location to explore Florence... half way between the Duomo and Uffizi, on a busy but not noisy side-street. Our room (7) was wonderfully comfortable with a HUGE firm bed, bistro table with chairs and a separate desk. There is plenty of cupboard and drawer space to unpack and feel at home. It is NOT a hotel, so be aware that it does not have a 24/7 reception, but Stefano seemed to always be there to answer questions and offer a warm greeting. There is no restaurant, but with the wonders of Florence on your doorstep why would you want to eat in?
I AM VERY PICKY and have found fault with many 5 star hotels, but I cannot find fault with the Residenza Della Signoria. It was spotlessly clean, wonderfully comfortable (air-conditioned) and helped to make our first (but not last) trip to Florence perfect.

If you are in for location that is in the heart of the city and yet within walking distance to a train station, this is where you should look. The hotel is also only a stone's throw away from Cathedral Santa Maria del Fiore. It is also only 10min walk from the Santa Maria station which works extremely well for us considering it is the main meeting place for any Florence/Tuscany tours. Oh and it is so near to Ponte Vecchio and San Lorenzo market too.

Love the high ceiling and the room is actually quite sound proof. Shut the windows if you do not want to hear the city buzz. It feels very safe and secure. Highly well maintained rooms. We love Stefano's very friendly attitude, he really looked after us.

If you stay there please don't forget to try the gelato right in front of the hotel. It is one of those gelato stores that always has a queue and apparently highly recommended -- we found out from our new American tourist friends who booked a food tour where they made a stop there.

Very charming & elegant B&B! We stayed here with our young kids (6 & 4 years) end May. Stefano was a very well informed and gracious host. The accomodation is extremely comfortable, super clean and has an awesome location. Most key sites & great eateries (& gelato shops) in Florence are walking distance. We are so glad we found this place - absolutely recommend it and will be sure to use this when we are in the area next!
