We spent three nights in this hotel in September 2013 and although it is in a great location (very close to the Duomo) overall we were disappointed. We booked and paid for the hotel through a travel agent 11 months in advance requesting a twin room which the hotel confirmed. On arrival we were told there was only a double room available. As I was on holiday with a friend this really wasn't acceptable especially as the hotel was booked and confirmed nearly a year in advance. The manager took us our room and offered to pull out the sofa bed. I explained to the manager that we weren't very happy with that arrangement and would not have booked the hotel if we had realised this would be the case. The manager then instead of apologising became very rude and rather aggressive in his manner! He did eventually arrange for a single bed to be brought up to the room which of course was acceptable but just disappointing that this wasn't offered straight away.
With regards to the the hotel overall, if you want a modern hotel with all the mod cons this hotel is not for you, however, it is a characterful hotel housed in a Renaissance period building which is all part of it's charm.
There were a few irritating things which I would not expect from a 3 star hotel - the shower would suddenly run cold whilst using it, you couldn't have a bedside lamp on as they were connected to the main lights so it was all or nothing, the door fell off the bedside cabinet when I opened it, one of the wall lights swung upside down when touched and the door to the bathroom needed slaming to shut properly. The breakfast was ok but there were plastic cups for the juice which I thought was a bit lazy and the toaster took a good 10 minutes to toast the bread.
There are a couple of other reviews on here which I wish I had seen before we booked the hotel, unfortunately the managers response to them are really not acceptable and really does himself no favours in sercuring future bookings.
