“Fantastic city, fantastic hosts!”
Reviewed July 28, 2013

Admittedly this review is a long time coming - my boyfriend and I stayed here in Easter!

After all this time we have still not forgotten the city, the property, the wonderful hosts.
Donatella and her husband keep the accomodation in immaculate order, provide local knowledge on the best eateries, offer scrumptuous breakfasts and enable guests to enjoy a serene stay.

This is a place you remember, want to write about on your return and hope to enjoy again in the future.

Thank you Donatella,
Eva & Paolo.

Monte Oliveti is not very central, on the south side of Arno and with a 15-20 min walk to Ponte Vecchia. So if you don´t like to walk, and/ or are visiting Florence for 1 night only and have a thight scedual, this might not be the place for you (even if there are good bus connections to the centre). If you want a quiet place with comfortable spacious non-standard rooms, welcoming, helpful and very nice staff, very good breakfast in a quiet gardenspot and/or want a place where you can retreat from the citylife: Try this place.

I have been visiting Florence on many occasions, and tried several central hotels, but I think Monte Oliveti is a place I would like to come back to. On this occasion I only had two nights, but if I come back to Florence for longer stays, I would definitly try to get a booking here.

The location outside the city centre can be good in many ways. The Oltrarno district has several excellent sights within some minutes walking from the B&B: The church Santa Maria del Carmine with the magnifiscent Brancacci Chapel (Masolino, Masaccio, Filippino Lippi), The church of Santa Spirito with its interior by Brunelleschi, interesting paintings by Allori and Filippino Lippi, Palazzo Pitti with the magnificent collections in Galleria Palatina and the Boboli Gardens, and a personal favourite of mine: Pontormo´s "Deposition" in Santa Felicita. If you travel by car: You can park in the street outside the B&B, and easily take a drive to Piazzale Michelangelo for a beautiful view, and go uphill to the lovely church of San Miniato al Monte for an even better view, and see one of the finest churches in Florence.

The area is a bit more shabby than the centre, the piazzas St Carmine and St Spirito are lovely, but not as posh and touristy as some other piazzas. Oltrarno is supposed to be one of the best dining area in town, and it has a lot of good bars, cafes and restaurants.

In a quiet residential location only 10 minutes walk from the Ponte Vecchio and Duomo and a few minutes from a good selection of restaurants. Donatella and her family were the perfect hosts offering great advice on all things Firenze and more! Leaving early Sunday morning for Mugello and the Moto GP I found the camera I had been leant by my son for the trip had no SD card. I was soon offered a card from a similar camera the family had and my photo crisis was averted. Clearly above and beyond...
Breakfast varied each day and is a pleasant change from the 'same old' on the tourist trail. The house, front patio and rear garden were bursting with the colour of summer blooms. The rooms authentic, tasteful, clean and comfortable and although 'Mimosa' the single room was not on suite the toilet and shower room were just next door. I would highly recommend the beautiful Monte Oliveto to put authentic Italy at he heart of your stay in Firenze.

This B&B is in a very quiet location, but not too far from the main areas of the city. It's close to a couple bus stops but we never used them, as Florence isn't too big to walk... Location is Not everything with this B&B, however. Donatella and her daughter Marta are wonderful, perfect hosts! They gave us great advice on what to do and where to go in the city, along with an excellent map. Donatella cooks up a great breakfast every morning, and every morning isn't the same! We arrived booked into one of their smaller rooms, but a bigger suite was available so they moved us into that for no increase in what we paid... Really don't look elsewhere in Florence. If being a bit outside the center of the city is alright with you, then this is the place.

Donatella was a great host and friendly, greeting us when we arrived at Monte Oliveto's doorstep. The house is extremely quaint with blooming colorful flowers in the summer. Our Sage room is spacious and clean and breakfast was served every morning in her beautiful garden. The house is situated in a quiet neighborhood and we need to do a bit of walking to central Florence but when we were too tired to walk, bus stops are just around the corners. To Pisa, we took an hour train from Firenze SMN train station. Donatella was a great help in giving us information on directions to Museums, parks and shopping areas. Although it was a short 3 days stay in Florence, we will definitely miss Donatella and her beautiful house.

We just got home from our trip in Italy.. Monte Oliveto was our first stop.. its a very calm clean home to stay, we would have breakfast every morning outside and it was all made that morning and was a great way to start our day.. donnatella was so helpful when we had a little issue with a bank card.. the only thing that i find strange is that everywhere we stayed there were no face cloths... WHAT do was with.. so bring your own.. there was air and plenty of hot water..
it is on the south side of the river so if you want to be in the middle of everything its a bit of a walk, but you can walk it. and there is a food shop down the street if you need to pick up a few things.. i would go back in a heart beat..

Room Tip: we stayed in the wisteria rood.. it has a deck off the bathroom and bathroom.. i thought it was the...

Our family of 4 just got back form a trip to Italy - when in Florence, we stayed at Monte Oliveto for 5 nights. Great place to get away to at the end of busy days touring central Florence. Our second daughter decided to join us at the last minute. In addition to the top-floor La Mansarda suite which we had reserved, Donatella graceously offered for one of us to stay in the single Mimosa room at no extra charge. The rooms were nicely decorated and clean; bathrooms were modernized and very functional. Breakfast were always freshly prepared by the host and highly anticipated by all of us. Laundry service was available at a small nominal charge. Donatella went out of her way to help us in any question we had. All in all, great hospitality from Donatella and her husband. They respected our privacy but also were open to socializing and sharing some of our mutual families' stories. By the time we left, we had made new friends in Florence whom we sure hope will keep their promise to visit us in the US.
