This was a very unassuming place from the outside, but inside it was very friendly, remarkably attentive service, good casalinga (homemade) pastas, a fine house red wine, and a fine peposo (Michelangelo's favorite dish, a hearty beef stew). If you want a nice home-cooked dinner off the beaten track, go to L'brindellone.

This unassuming venue is a bit out of the way which makes it an authentic Italian eating experience. Pranzo 12.30 to 2 on the Oltrarno side with painters and carpenters is hearty food, simply prepared and quickly served. This is the perfect place to eat lunch after a visit to the Brancacci Chapel in Chiesa del Carmine.

Tucked away near the Piazza Santa Maria della Carmine, L'brindellone is an unassuming restaurant that serves up some of the finest pasta in Florence. Menu items are simple, in the elegant Tuscan-style of preparation. It is also one of the few restaurants in the Oltrarno that is open on Sundays.

We have never been disappointed in the dining. We have, however, been turned away at the door when it seemed feasible that we could be seated. I would agree with the reveiwer who speculated that L'brindellone is prioritizing for locals, and who can blame them? Most travelers spend less than 2 days in Florence, on average. We spend a month there every year and have tried to make inroads with the staff. We're not giving up because this restaurant is definitely worth it.

It is a bit off the beaten path, but if you find yourself in Oltrarno West, near Cappella Brancacci, feast yourself on a cheap yet tasty local menu. This Trattoria serves the typical meals of Tuscany/Florence: rich in tomato sauce. It is a simple place and you may dine next to local road workers and brick layers, or an airliner crew: all of those guys know where to get their food. At 12 euros, a plentiful lunch for two, including wine, I highly recommend this place for those wanting to experience local.
