“Different experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 11, 2013

This Cibreo "branch" restaurant is different from most of what we've been accustomed to regard as a restaurant. A mix of a private club, a theater, and a communitarian diner this place proved to be an enjoyable dinner experience. First, you have to pay a fee to become a member, a flat price for a pre-established dinner. You pretty much have to elbow your way to the food. You are encouraged to interact with the other patrons, either on your way to the food or while eating on larger tables. Ad libidum local wine from a box will help with your Italian. We tasted some typical Tuscan dishes, such as schiacciata, trippa, lampredotto among others. After all the courses, chairs are lined up for all to watch a theatrical performance. All this makes for a long night, so to best enjoy this place, plan to go on a night you have not "wasted" yourself wandering around Florence.

If I had to weigh the aspects individually, I would probably give it a very good (some of the food was deliciously done, some bulk cooking, and the performance was a bit too local) but I gave the restaurant an Excellent rating because of the whole experience. It left me with a "want more" taste in my mouth.

“When in Firenze … just go to the Cibreo Teatro Del Sale”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 7, 2013

First of all … just go there. Make a reservation, endure filling up the membership form, choose a seat close to the kitchen and enjoy the show. The food preparation and consumption is a spectacle first, but make no mistake, food is great. How can a small stuff of 4-5 cook and serve 200 people? Go and see. Good old communist cafeteria rules and efficiencies, under the watchful eyes of Marx and Lenin presiding over the oven, meet exuberance of Italian hospitality. Listen to the cries of the barker announcing the dishes. Shoulder your way to the counter and EAT everything. Skip breakfast and lunch on the day in question, you will need the space. After the joyful 3 hour banquet the restaurant space is transformed in minutes into a small traditional stage theater and the captivated (red wine is decent, comes from the “barrel” and quantity is unlimited) audience enjoys the show most of them seem to be quite familiar with. If you don’t want to stay for the entire 1.5 hour cabaret performance you can take seats in the back and escape quietly.

“What a crazy experience!!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 30, 2012 via mobile

We are looking after an apartment on Via dei Macci so every day we watched the "Cibreo" culture out our window - the staff run between the restaurant, the cafe & the theatre / club & Fabio Picci wanders between them too. Because his wife was in town & because she performs off Broadway in New York, we thought we better become members of the club (costs 7 euro for a tourist) & see her show after doing the dinner beforehand. There are lots of reviews about "the experience", which is definitely what it's all about!! We were shown in by a fellow who speaks english and he asked us if we'd prefer to be comfortably seated for the meal or for the show. We said the show, and he said "are you sure? it's a monologue that goes for an hour and twenty minutes, and it's in italian. you'll be in the second row. if you want to stand up it will be a disaster for 150 people behind you". We had to hide our laughter because it's not what we expected at all!! We thought she was a cabaret singer so we'd expected music & songs!! But we took the 2nd row seats anyway, enjoyed rushing up to the serving table every time the chef stuck his head out the window & shouted in italian what was being served (we never had any idea what it was, but it was all really yummy) & generally pretending we were italians. this would be really fun to do with a group of people who are out for a bit of fun that mostly comes from having no idea whats going on!! Oh, and if they serve polenta, don't make the mistake i did & try to serve yourself something else on the same plate that the polenta comes on. i got in big trouble from the chef for putting two sun dried tomatoes with mine, at the top of his voice, in italian!! whoops!! it was a fun night - give it a go!!

“Interesting location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 7, 2012

It is not a simple restaurant. It's a cultural experience. Located in one of the less known (but not less attractive) parts of Florence, an old theatre has been transformed in a cultural club, where also it is possible to have excellent food, cooked in a kitchen

“Yummiest food and kind of different all you can eat dining”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 5, 2012

I visited this place with a group of theatre people (we had a conference in Tuscany). You pay 37 euros (not sure if 7 is the membership and 30 for dinner or vice versa), get seated and then the dinner starts. The cook is shouting what is coming on the table - but not at your table, but a big table in front of the kitchen where everyone comes and grabs whatever he wants. No queues, you have to mingle around the table. Food is fantastic so make sure you leave the room for all of the upcoming dishes (and there is A LOT of them). You get your water and red wine from tanks by yourself, as much as you want. After all the food, there is not much space for coffee and sweets, but you should try :-). Right after the dinner they move all tables and transorm the place into the theatre. The only thing I wasn´t happy with is that they rush this part of the evening. Some people didn´t have time to get their coffee and because drinks are not allowed during the show, some were not happy about it. Anyway, the show at that day was a singer and entertainer Maria Cassi and she was great. I speak little Italian but even if you don´t, I think you get from her facial expressions what she is talking and singing about. Have to say it was a great show and I would love to see it again!!! Despite little rushing, I think this place is worth the visit.
