“Skip The Line Accadamia Tour WAY Too Long”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 29, 2012

We were on a private tour from a cruise ship and purchased this tour to see the David. Upon meeting the Caf Tour guides at the prescribed location, we were in the museum within 10 minutes.

I must say the guide was extremely knowledgeable, but this tour was way too long. We went in the museum at 11:15 and could have been out in a half hour. The guide spent 20 minutes at the first piece in the entry hall discussing the piece. We also saw those who had done this tour on their own had maps of the museum - when doing a group, none of us receive those. .

We then went into the room with the David and spent another half hour listening to her explanations of the unfinished Michaelangelo pieces. Finally we got to the David, which was magnificent. But again - a 30 minute explanation of the sculpture and discussion on whether this was David before or after he slayed Goliath. When you see that beautiful sculpture, you don't want to hear discussions about the unfinished pieces - we understand they are unfinished, but come on.

Luckily our private tour guide was waiting for us outside, so after an hour and fifteen minutes, we had to give our guide the headphones back and leave. The six of us all agreed that we could have done the gallery in 20 minutes and the tour was way too long.

I guess they wanted to make sure we got our moneys worth, but we felt bored. And again - why weren't we given maps? That would have been very helpful.

Again, I just re-iterate that the guide was extremely knowledgeable, but just didn't keep our interest because the discussions were too long at each piece.

“Caf Tour Renaissance Dinner at Palazzo Borghese”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 4, 2012

My husband and I really loved the Renaissance Dinner at the Palazzo Borghese. It was all the brochure & website promised & more. First of all the Palazzo Broghese is magnificent to say the least. The gentleman hosting the event was really concerned that everyone there was happy and completely satisfied with everything. The entertainment (live music, dancing and jester) was wonderful. The food and wine could not have been better. It started with a champagne toast, and we were given 2 bottles of wine (Chianti and white, both excellent quality). We were given a choice of entree (fish, prime rib, or pork.) The appetizers and all the courses were delicious. Caf has really outdone itself here in creating a delightful experience. I would not hesitate to recommend this to a friend or do this again if I return to Florence.

“Academia and Uffizi Gallery--"long wait for a skip the line tour"”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 2, 2012

We booked these two tours through Viator. For the Accademie Gallery, there was an over one hour wait in a long line just for the group tours. While I understand that at a crowded attraction some wait might be necessary just due to the sheer numbers of people, this was a "skip the line tour". Well it wasn't. The tour itself was of shorter duration than the wait outside in the line. The tour guide steamed nice and helpful but had an Italian accent and didn't speak English well enough for us to understand more than about 50% of the information she gave.

The Uffizi gallery tour was better but still about 1/2 hour wait in line. The tour guide spoke English much better and we got a lot more out of the tour. This is a fantastic museum, and although you could spend days here, we felt that we did see the highlights.

GRAYLINE, Responsabile relazioni con la clientela at Caf Florence, Tuscany & Italy Tours, responded to this review, October 10, 2012
Dear Sirs,
We are sorry to learn that you didn't appreciate the guided visit to the Accademia and considering that your disappointment is mainly due to the wait in line outside the museum, we would like to bring to your attention some basic points which have not been considered.
The Accademia is one of the most visited museum in the world and in high season during the periods of large attendance, in spite of our reservations, the entry to the museums could be subject to delays, which cannot be attributable to our responsibility, as we have clearly stated in our General Conditions which are integral part of the booking.
Also you have to consider that the people who do not have the reservation normally wait 3 hours about, before getting inside the gallery.
We point out that the advanced booking allows you to skip the long line of the people who do not have the reservations and at the same time to guarantee the visit of the museum for the requested date, otherwise not guaranteed.
"Skip the line" has to be contextualized considering the large attendance of people in some crowded days, as the delays might occur for several reasons not depending on our agency, for example if some groups stay longer inside the museum, they do not allow other groups with the reservation to get in, as for security reasons the visitors inside cannot exceed a certain number of people.
Honestly speaking, we see every day at the museum's entrance people without reservation who give up to wait in line due to the long queue and they ask to our agency if it's possible to purchase the pre-booked ticket.
Regarding the tour guide, based on your information we are unable to identify who was with you since that day we had various guides, however we want to underline that we work only with licensed guides who have passed a strict public exam before becoming a guide, furthermore their knowledge of English language as well as their skill are proven by our quality tests which are random made among our customers and from several positive feedback sent
to our agency too.
In your specific case, it was advisable to inform the guide about your problem so that she could articulate better her pronunciation for your clear understanding.
Also we have to say that up to now nobody else has complained such a problem about our guides that day.
Thank you for your feedback

“San Gimanagno and Sienna”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 28, 2012

Booked through Viatours but went on Caf bus
We enjoyed the day loved the double decker bus with great views upstairs except the bus could use some new suspensions but the trip is only 75 minutes from Florence so it was not too bad.
The guide was good except she had to do 3 languages for every thing ;French ;Spanish and English which was annoying ; as the majority were English they should have an all English tour.
Nevertheless Sienna and San Gimagno are must sees and the tour is a great way to get there in one day plus the information from a guide.
The local Sienna english tour guide wqlking tour for 2 hours was excellent and a highlight.
So overall this tour still gets an Excellent rating as we came home with great memories.
Also the bus driver was very very good.
