We were on a private tour from a cruise ship and purchased this tour to see the David. Upon meeting the Caf Tour guides at the prescribed location, we were in the museum within 10 minutes.
I must say the guide was extremely knowledgeable, but this tour was way too long. We went in the museum at 11:15 and could have been out in a half hour. The guide spent 20 minutes at the first piece in the entry hall discussing the piece. We also saw those who had done this tour on their own had maps of the museum - when doing a group, none of us receive those. .
We then went into the room with the David and spent another half hour listening to her explanations of the unfinished Michaelangelo pieces. Finally we got to the David, which was magnificent. But again - a 30 minute explanation of the sculpture and discussion on whether this was David before or after he slayed Goliath. When you see that beautiful sculpture, you don't want to hear discussions about the unfinished pieces - we understand they are unfinished, but come on.
Luckily our private tour guide was waiting for us outside, so after an hour and fifteen minutes, we had to give our guide the headphones back and leave. The six of us all agreed that we could have done the gallery in 20 minutes and the tour was way too long.
I guess they wanted to make sure we got our moneys worth, but we felt bored. And again - why weren't we given maps? That would have been very helpful.
Again, I just re-iterate that the guide was extremely knowledgeable, but just didn't keep our interest because the discussions were too long at each piece.
