“Excellent Lunch”
Reviewed September 22, 2013

During our cruise we visited Florence and with great pleasure had lunch a this lovely restaurant. Great pizza, salad. The food around us looked excellent as well. I am sure an evening meal on the plaza would be delightful. Our lunch was very good as was the gelato and expresso we had after a tough afternoon of shopping before returning to the ship. I would return if given the opportunity.

“Lunch at Finisterrae”
Reviewed September 12, 2013

My son and I were on a cruise to Italy with Florence being one of our tour stops. After our walking tour the guide pointed out several dining spots for lunch in the Santa Croce piazza, including this one. We figured lets sit outside and watch the tourists. Well, we were escorted through the restaurant to their back garden due to all the seats being taken. Perfect! It was shaded and pleasant after walking all over Florence. It has a small fountain which added to the atmosphere. We found the staff patient and understood English very well. My son and I shared a pizza with spiced salami (pepperoni is an American creation), a very cold beer for me and a coke for him. The pizza was the BEST, and I'm from NYC and have often gone into Little Italy. The total bill came to 14 Euros which I found to be well-priced and tipped accordingly (tip was not included in the price). I would highly recommend this spot while visiting Florence for lunch and see if you can sit in their lovely garden.

“super gelato!”
Reviewed September 5, 2013

My wife and I went gelato crazy on our trip to Italy and while in Florence, we walked about 30 minutes from our hotel to this location every night for more gelato. I don't know about the rest of the food, but dessert was an amazing treat.

“All at sea at Finisterrae”
Reviewed September 3, 2013

The Piazza Santa Croce is one of the most atmospheric places in Florence and a most pleasant place to eat in the evening. The Finisterrae provides good, well-cooked food not out of the Italian trattoria ordinary but the waiting staff are off - hand and charmless. Obviously, given the location, most customers will be tourists for whom this may be their only visit but that does not excuse the detached(verging on the surly) manner of those employed to wait there. The service at the adjoining Pizzeria Santa Croce is infinitely more pleasant and welcoming even if its furnishings are less opulent. There we watched the waiting staff engaging and inter-acting with the customers and happily taking their orders (and photographs). At Finisterrae it was as much as the wait staff could do to take the orders. We watched a succession of customers being refused permission to sit at vacant tables that they would have preferred, which tables then remained vacant throughout their time there.

If you are focussed solely on the food and oblivious to the dismissive, charmless service then this may be your place. Not ours. The Pizzeria Santa Croce for us next time!

“confused staff, but okay experience”
Reviewed August 30, 2013

we went to visit with two couples and were seated at the terrace along the piazza santa croce .. several things went wrong between taking our orders and the delivery .. during both starters and main courses some of us did not get what we ordered (which was corrected thereafter) and due to that we couldn't really eat all at the same time .. our waitress was great in the improvisations and the food was okay but not special ..
